Because???
Maybe Blooie will rent herself out to work on your behalf.

They're not teaching my grandson. The past 2 years he's been in advanced classes. He was almost a year ahead last year, and this year they were going to test him for the gifted class. When my daughter moved here, the class they put him in is not advanced. To me, it seems more like a slow learners class. The teacher is not giving him work to do, or homework. NOTHING. His school work is to be done online. It's a program called i-Ready. Until 9:20 am today, he could not even log in. When he does, it says he needs to talk to his teacher, because there is nothing for him to do. There is another site for his reading. It's got all his information from last year, but nothing from this year.

The teacher keeps promising to address the situation, but has not. We checked out another nearby school today. When we checked into having the kids transferred, the county school system says it has to wait until next year to transfer them. They don't just transfer students on request, once the school year has begun. We can apply so they can attend there next year though. Again, it's ruining the good study habits, and him striving to stay challenged, and continue learning.

With my granddaughter in kindergarten, it's a similar situation. Again, it's NOT being addressed, even though the teacher says she will. A big problem we're seeing too is for 20 minutes after the school bell rings, the kindergarten teacher is on her computer, ignoring the class. They're running around, hollering, pushing, shoving, but not engaged in any type of activity, other than the chaos they've decided on. She will look up, and fuss at them from time to time. A little later, off she goes to the office, leaving the class unsupervised. No, it's not her break. She stays in there socializing with quite a few other teachers, for at least 15 minutes, then heads back to class. It's rare to go into the office, and not see quite a few teachers socializing in the office. I don't mean just 4 or 5 teachers. I mean at least double that. They're going in with legitimate excuses of checking their inboxes, making copies, etc., but they're loitering too.

When I first checked out the school online, the older reviews were good. Almost all of the newer reviews, for the past 3 years have been really bad. I thought maybe it was a malcontent parent, you know the type. There's always one or two. The thing is, from what we're seeing, the bad reviews are true.

When we checked about transferring the kids, the gentleman did tell us to talk to the principal. That's the next step, since the teachers have not really addressed the situation. IF the principal doesn't resolve things satisfactorily within a short time, he gave me the name, and phone number of her boss, and suggested I call her. He said he was not allowed to tell me that the principal's boss did have the ability to transfer the kids, but what he could say is that she has the power to resolve matters to our satisfaction.

Definitely time to have a meeting with the principal AND the superintendent at the same time. Principal can't squirm his/her way out with the super there. If all those teachers are having gab sessions when they should be in class I kinda doubt the principal isn't aware of that.

Sorry you are having this problem, great way to ruin smart kids. And a waste of your taxpayer dollars.

Wowsers... online classes when the kid is sitting in an actual school room?

Teachers not teaching at all???

:barnie

Crazy land!!

I'm writing lists of questions, and complaints to address when we talk to the principal. I want to be fair. Like I explained to my daughter, as she is well aware, there are usually good, and bad teachers in each school. It's quite possible that the kids, being new, didn't get placed in the classes with the better teachers. I don't know, but we shall see.

I reminded her of a teacher she had, and I made the school put her in a different class. The teacher was a pot head, and would go into the supply closet to smoke her dope. When she came out, she would just sit there, staring off into space, totally zoned out. She was there 4 years, but they finally busted her. She was escorted out in handcuffs. They busted 2 other teachers that day too. It was all over the local news. Yet that same school had some really great teachers too.

Blooie, now I'm up against it with the school system. Grrrrrrr....

Um, Blooie isn't home much! :lau

Go get 'em! We are the only advocates our kids have, and I can't even imagine what that chaos in the kindergarten class must be like! Then to have your grandson shunted to the side like that - I'd be just as mad as you are. Um, one thing I have learned before you roll up your sleeves and put on the boxing gloves? Sarcasm is NOT your friend when dealing with these people. (I tried that - didn't work too well for me!) There is a chain of command in the school systems, and although they think they are the intermediaries between the feds and their schools, they aren't! They are there for the kids. They don't believe that, you often have to convince them of that little fact befoer you get anywhere, but they need to be reminded that YOUR child's education is THEIR first responsibility! Now go kick some butt!!

Wow, that hurricane has gotten huge!! Those of you that have that thing coming your way...I hope you are getting ready. It will be a category 5 by the time it hits North Carolina. Crazy, back in the 60s, no one ever worried about this sort of thing...Florida...yes! Was in a couple in Florida.

The online thing is not an online class. They do some of their work with pencil, and paper, but a lot of their work is done on the computer. Work done with pencil, and paper are scanned into the i-Ready as well, so it's all there. All the schools in our county have the exact same curriculum per grade, and achievement level. Almost all tests, and quizzes are done on the computer. The student logs in to do some of their classwork, and to do their homework. Parents can log in, and see exactly what their child is learning, their progress, etc. Like when my grandson reads a required reading book for his literature class, a little picture of the book with it's information is posted and the reading level of the book, along with the date he read it, and his scores when they test his reading comprehension. There is a picture with all the information posted of the book he's currently reading, and the next books he will be required to read. This way, he can progress more quickly if he's able, or the teachers can pick up on any area he may be struggling with, address it, and get him up to par quickly. It's really not a bad system.
