Hello folks I hope all is well or gets better for you. Micro chick, do you put pasta in your chili? and is it macaroni or spaghetti if you do? here in the southern half of Indiana chili isn't chili without macaroni in it. If someone uses spaghetti instead it's horrible, scandalious and if no pasts is used it's not fit to eat (at least in many people's eye around here)!

My mom always dumped a can of Chef Boy Ar Dee spaghetti and meat balls in her chili. I wondered if it was a cultural thing because she was a transplanted southern gal born down by the Tennessee border. She would chop up the 'noodles' in the can and just dump the whole can into the kettle of chili. It was delicious! All my friends when they would come over and stay for a meal would ask me if my mom was making her famous 'dog food' chili because one of them saw her making it once and thought she was dumping a can of dog food in it. The name stuck.

DH always wants traditional chili though. So no 'dog food' added. Like I said, must be a regional thing, he was raised in WI.

Gawd, now you are making me hungry for chili!

I've never heard of anyone putting pasta in chili before! We do a lot with chili but never pasta. Now you have me curious about it

I was born and raised in Central IL. Chili Mac was a big thing there and it was chili with macaroni in it. There used to be a restaurant that if you were brave you could order Chili 3 Ways. It was regular chili, chili mac and if I remember right Chili Con Carne. You would suffer greatly with it but boy it was worth it's weight in Mylanta!

See above. Chili with macaroni is chili mac, chili without macaroni is chili. Chili with beans is considered blasphemy to Texans. Chili with pasta would be considered the same.
