My husband asked, ''At 50,000 do they give you a prize or call your boss?"
He then asked how many I have.... Hey! He's not the boss of me!
so I didn't tell him.

Thanks for a good day long of reading! My family has been sick on and off for a month. So here is a question: What would you do? Here is the scenario:
My dd has a serious heart condition. She can *not* get strep, URI, pnuemonia et al. My dh gets sick and finally goes in to a new practice to see a new doc, they say no strep but based on how you sound and your symptoms, let's put you on antibiotics. My other dd had a URI and I put her on a zpak. She got better in 2 days. My special needs dd is sent home from school complaining of a sore throat middle of last week, seems fine next day. This past Sunday I feel crappy and sleep for 7 hours on Sunday, wake up on Monday raging sore throat, headache, tinnitus through the roof, pain. Call my normal doc., Explain everything and they say we will talk to the doc. 5 hours later at 3, I call. "Oh, we were going to call you.... maybe just go to urgent care or we have an appointment at 3:15 tomorrow" AARGH! Take the appointment. Show up at 3:15...wait...wait.. not seen until 4:30! Pronouncement: No strep but your throat is red, since you have a bad headache, do you want to do a blood test for mono? Or just go home and take allergy meds and chloroseptic for your throat. Call us back if it isn't better.

Ask for and am told "no antibiotic". Slug it out all week going to work with my fragile Seniors (age 55+) and caring for my family.
Friday, get a call from the doctor:" How are you feeling?" Me: The same crappy way as when I left. Dr. "Well, you do have group B strep. Do you want an antibiotic? "

(No, I would rather infect everyone I have been around this week and put my dd in the hospital! AARgh
duc.gif
) DR.: "What are you allergic to?" Me: "I like Zpak as it is effective and not allergic to it. Her: "No. Let's do penicillin." I have had a reaction at 2 weeks taking it and she knows it. Go get meds-2.5 hours, haul my dd to her Dr.'s- 2 hours, He immediately puts her on antibiotics & tests her just in case. (The pediatric nurse couldn't believe what I told her and why they did not put me on antibiotics on Tuesday.) Go get dd's meds( 1 hour) and drive 1.5 hours to respite care facility that almost didn't take her- can you blame them??? My dd still got to go away to her weekend of respite with her best friend. I came home and have stayed in bed. It has now transformed into an URI. This is not the way I would want to spend the 4x a year respite weekend! I feel vindicated that I was right in my diagnosis. But 90% of the above could have been prevented by putting me on antibiotics on Tuesday. This is not the first time they have missed it! They have misdiagnosed me several times (costing more than I care to think about).
So here is the question: Would you get a new PCP? ? What would you do?

Phil, How did your appointment for allergies go?
Rachel, What did you decide for the barn floor? Where are you thinking of moving too? Are you up for that?
Outpost, Glad the kitchen is getting better!
Blooie, Did you do anything more about getting someone to help do the heavy lifting? Did you all see the post about the dad who creates custom costumes for wheelchairs??? He has 2 in wheelchairs.
Sour, You better not be lighting those fireworks or Princess will be after you for getting into trouble!

Congratulations!!

I would get a new PCP.

Look into epicor. It should be fine for your DD with the heart condition to take and it helps keep everyone in the family to stay healthy.

Epicor can also be taken twice a day when you are sick.

Didn't go yet it's the VA. Everything is a process. When I see my regular DR. I will get the ball rolling. Did have an eye exam. Didn't go great but nothing I'm worried about now. You get better sounds like you need some good luck to fall upon you. hang in there things can only go up from here.....Phil

HB--I would look into a new PCP. I would also ask your dd's Dr if they would be willing to write scripts for you, either to have on hand "just in case" or if they would call something in for you from a phone visit. I know that gets tricky billing-wise, but maybe they'd help you out until you get a new PCP. Now, in my previous life I was so anit-anti-biotic it wasn't even funny, but my life has of course changed and I can now appreciate the need for them, sometimes when they don't always look necessary. Jeepers, I'm currently taking Zithromax at a low dose three times a week, and Septra twice a week

. The Z will be for at least 3 months, to see how it helps my lungs, and the Septra will be for at least a year post transplant, to prevent PCP form of pneumonia.

Will your husband's new Dr take you? They sound reasonable-ish.

So, the barn floor is completely rotten. We finished cleaning it out today and will work on demo more on Monday. We're thinking to just make a gravel floor. We'll have to eval what to do with the dividing wall, there's actually two rooms out there. The wall separating the two rooms is literally hanging from the ceiling right now, the floor under it is gone. I don't know if we can joist/footer it, or just tear it out and make it one large space. Sigh.

We're just looking at moving local. We want to stay in the same school district, which may present a challenge. We want a place where we can keep pigs (not allowed at our current place) and beef (maxed out on hooved animals per acre with the horses here), and I want to expand the chickens, get turkeys and Honey has a thing for ducks. So, it's just time to find a bigger place. We're in no hurry, though, so it may take a while.

The auction was fun today. There weren't many folks there. Someone local breeds Polish, some frizzled, Legbars, and Ayam Cemani. They had culls from those breeds there....yep, I saw Ayam Cemani at an auction! Nope, didn't buy anything that eats or needed a pen built. Honey bought some tools, that was it. they had a lot of weaner pigs and some goats, a few sheep and 5 cattle. Oh, there was a pretty Brown Swiss heifer, she went for eighty some cents a pound, would have been right around $750 I think. She may have made a fabulous nurse cow, but I'm leery of auction cattle if you want to breed. I'd buy a beef there in a heartbeat, but my mind is saying.....why are they selling this heifer? Is she a freemartin? Have they tried to breed her and she won't settle? Things like that....and no seller on site to speak about her. She sure was pretty, though.

I don't have fireworks, but congratulations sourland! You're a true asset to this site, and I enjoy talking to you.
