My leukemia's back.

Rachel, let us know how your lab test goes.

Yay, new chicks are coming!

Morning all. I think I am ordering this year from papa's poultry in CA. Shipping is outrageous, but they have the breeds I want. I'm still doing my homework. Never mail ordered chicks before. Need to wait for Ohio temps to get up there more. Just too unpredictable right now. You all have a good day. Got to head out for work.

What breeds are you wanting Outpost? Meyer Hatchery is located in OH (Polk maybe?), they might have what you want. I just read this morning they now have a drive-up window! Not sure how that works but it sounds fun to think of someone just handing you a box of chicks out the window. Here's their website if you want to look:

Oh man, a drive up window for baby chicks

. Like that's not a hot mess waiting for the right person! Glad I don't have one of those nearby.

The lab tech was asking what's up when I came in this morning. "do they not believe the numbers I'm drawing?". They still can't run the test in the office, it has to go to the parent office so probably results this afternoon. I'm really, really working on my diet today. I should just go ultra low carb and get into ketosis, but I'm just not sure I can do that. I'm thinking to keep the carbs under 100 per day at first and see how I do with that. I can go lower if need be, but man I love my carbs.

Ohio...Oregon, see you're not that far apart (alphabetically, lol). When people ask you where you got your chicks, just tell them "the drive up window" and let them figure out it wasn't McD's.

Yeah, nuggets with sauce at Micky D's and live nuggets at Meyers

. That could be so, so bad.....it's bad enough the local feed stores have chicks for several months. They also have a decent variety of breeds. But at least I have to park and get out of the vehicle.

Thank you so much for the links. I get the mcmurray catalog but I didn't know of Meyer... I figure better to ask for the link than get the wrong Google search.

Wow! Blood sugar to 400! I go the other way mine was 50 yesterday, I got clammy and blurred vision... I had some dark chocolate honeycomb candy left from Christmas, boosted me to 118 phew. Had epidural and facet blocks in my back today so I am down for the day... Nothing new. Have shots every 3 months. Debating if I should go to my caraciture drawing class tonight or watch oj show

WHAT??? Drive up window? I've got to go!!!! :weee I need speckled Sussex pullets. I had some ordered at my feed store last year and they said that their supplier said their SS roo was infertile.......after I waited WEEKS. I have a SS rooster. He is awesome. I've bought chicks, but they either get picked off by predators or die. He needs his own girls!

I need a maran cockerel. I've bought a black copper French marans sexed as a 1 day old chick to be a cockerel. She is a great hen......
Bought a blue copper French marans cockerel. He got sick a few months after I got him and later died.
I bought 6 cuckoo marans this past spring. Hoping to get one rooster. So far, it's not looking good. Lost some due to illness. I think there are still 3 or 4 left and they all look like girls.

I also need crested cream Legbar pullets. I have 2 Roos. DHs dog killed my 2 CCL hens.

The breeds I need are very specific and papas poultry is the only one I could find that has everything I need.

See if those work for you!

Sounds like Meyers is the place for you!

I'm so frustrated.....I had the fasting lab done this morning. Blood sugar is 191. The office called this afternoon...the doctor on call wants you to make an appointment with your hematologist with more labs......Uh,,,, NO! I just saw my hematologist on Friday. He's well aware of what's going on. And more labs....why, again? It's pretty darn well documented that my sugar is out of control. What I need is someone to TREAT it, not dink around documenting it. I asked for an RX for a glucometer and either insulin or glucophage or something....the little MA on the phone asked if I had a regular provider. Yes, I do....well, that's probably who will need to take care of this for you. SERIOUSLY? You all couldn't have told me that last week? You're not going to DO anything, but no one was going to tell me that until I pushed for treatment?

Thankfully, I had already scheduled an appointment with my PCP for Thursday am. I hate to add diabetes treatment to the appointment time, but the other reason can easily be rescheduled if need be. I'm watching my diet, and decreasing the prednisone, but sometimes you need treatment in addition to that. I'm tired of having a chronic headache, and the blurred vision, shakes, weakness. If I drink any more I think I'll float away, and I'm up like 3-4 times a night peeing off all that fluid.

Otherwise, things are going well. We made it to the YMCA tonight. I still don't like exercise, but I know it's necessary.

I've been thinking about how to manage my breeding pens. Space is always an issue of course. I came up with the idea to just leave Eric and Keeper (he's going to need a new name, I think) in the same pen and hatch Camo Eggers. I'll separate the Marans and get some chicks from them, then sell off the parent birds. That will leave me with the bantam Cochin hens and my single silkie hen. I have a black silkie rooster in there and I like the silkie/Cochin mixes, but he's not a very good quality silkie so he may get replaced, or I may just cull him and use one of the bantam Cochin I'm ordering for June delivery. Some of those girls may need to be culled this summer, depending on who goes broody this year.
