My leukemia's back.

I'm sorry for your loss Rachel. I'm sure you and your family have lots of good memories of your dad, that's something to be thankful for. Hugs to you and your family

Hi friends.....

My Dad passed away this morning.

I'm at home waiting for Honey to get home, he's going to drive me over to stay with my Mom for a few days.

I'm sure I"ll be on line some, byc is my go-to sanity saver :) , but don't worry if I'm not on much.

Thank you all for your support and prayers. My sister says it was very peaceful, he just slept his way to Heaven. I'm good with that.

Hey Phil, How many ducks do you want?

Not that many.....;)
Bet the custard was yummy! Got any left to go with coffee?

Oops, Got you mixed up with everyone else doing shipped eggs these days. You will probably have better luck with your duck eggs when it warms up (if it ever warms up there) and their laying cycles are more steady. Hope you get some to hatch!

It was.... French Toast custard...

:hugs....... Sorry Rachael..... I have nothing more to say...... Because words are just words.......:hugs

Rachel, what Blooie said x 2. You've had a rough time of it, for sure. Praying God's peace on you and your family, especially your Mom during this time of grieving.

Phil, I share your issues with poor fertility. I've been bragging Jack (my roo) up for a long time regarding his fertility, saying he easily covers 24 hens. Don't know if he missed a few, or it was too cold for the little swimmers to complete their laps. But, I've removed 25% of the eggs I set due to early quit or clear.

Disheartening, ain't it? I won some more eggs (don't ask....it was even 2nd prize!) but these should get here in pretty good shape. They were shipped Wednesday, out for delivery today, and only had to go from Denver to Cheyenne to Casper to here. So not much handling at all. I'm down to 8 out of the 27 that were set. I was sent 28 but I cracked one the first day they got here. <sigh> This evening marks Day 16 and every egg in there has movement yet. We'll see! I don't think I'm cut out for this......but the brooder pen is ready and Mama Heating Pad is warming up in the wings.

K, Blooie: you know my set up, and you know my style. I've got 1- 12 x 24 Sunbeam Xpress, and 1 Sunbeam (smaller model) both with shut off over ride. If I have successful hatch... not expecting good % cause I'm fudging with a new bator that I set eggs in before ironing out kinks of temp fluctuations... any how. Best case scenario, is 36 chicks, including one poult. Did 22 under XL last season, but the weather was warmer. Should I buy an other XL, with the 6 heat settings, or could I make do with the 2 pads that I now have, or should I buy and other XL, or perhaps an other pad of same size with constant on feature, but only 3 settings? I'll also be doubling use for seedling mats. I guess the question I should really be asking, is: how does the control provided by a cheaper L-M-H pad compare to the 1-2-3-4-5-6 of the Sunbeam????

You can probably make do with what you have, LG....Last year we talked about building one frame and butting the the pads side by side over it, remember? And you know, along that vein, if you do get the hatch you hope for, you know that not all of those chicks will be at exactly the same maturity level, depending on breed, feathering, size, etc, so what would be wrong with having one pad set on a higher temperature than the other - sorta like heat zones - so they could "pick their spots" without jamming in there tightly? Jest a thought.....you could butt the pads side by side, then put your entire assembly in the pillowcase ala @Beekissed ! I only have the heating pads with the 6 settings, but I know that as long as you have the ability to keep the heating pad on continuously there are others who are using L, M, H with great success.

Just my 2 cents' worth.....

Rachel, I have tears in my eyes. I pray your family will draw close, your mom be concluded and be able to give thanks that it was a quiet passing. Sending you flowers as a reminder that God will give you all you need and hold you tight.
