My leukemia's back.

Phil, I think it should not be a cat nap but a fish nap! The cat will eat the real fish while you are dreaming of catching that big one!

Glad you all liked what I shared. It was a different childhood than most born out of economic necessity.I don't remember books worth but I do have vivid memories of some things. I'll share another memory later about the sleeping snake.

Outpost, I would try a two pronged approach if you can. I would try to lose the weight and dispute the numbers by asking if you can have a one month extension and retest in a month.

And who is talking snow in WY? That is a banned word in my seasonal weather book! Brrr.... Give me a warm place so I can be like a lizard on a rock and stay warm.

Snow would be banned in mine too but gotta go where my heart is. And in this case, it's in WY!

And here I swore once I left KS I would never be cold again. HAH!

We almost got trapped in Gillette, Wy. on Sunday due to snow. Mountain passes which were clear as a bell when we went on Saturday were socked in on Sunday. I-90 closed between Buffalo and Sheridan so couldn't go up and around and home through Billings. Had to take a bunch of backroads from Gillette to Casper, then over to Shoshoni and up through the Wind River Canyon. Had snow between Gillette and Casper but nothing difficult to handle except for the bad visibility. Our 5 hour trip took us 8. <sigh> Love Spring in Wyoming.

Can't remember if I told you Blooie...DH was driving from Cheyenne to Sinclair Sunday morning and got stopped on the highway for 5 hours while a big accident was cleared off the road. What should have been a 2.25 hour trip took him over 7.

He got a "good" taste of WY weather there.

Glad you got home ok!

I got my official numbers back from my physical at work. All my numbers are just off a little. Just enough for them to raise my rates. I will therefore have to pay an extra almost $100 per paycheck-every other week.
My choices are: change my body in a month, dispute the results, or to just accept it and pay. I was taking cough meds & told them that, so hoping that's why my sugar was high. In the meantime, I am walking on my lunch break and eating a healthier diet to hopefully lose 10 pounds. The numbers are just SO CLOSE! My BMI is 31. According to company standards, I have to be at 29.9 to receive the lower rates. Ahhhh, so close.
Since I've been checking out labels, I cannot believe all the sodium in foods:th. Even cereal and oatmeal.....wow!
Suppose to rain for 10+ days straight here starting today. Ugh!
You all have a good day! Got to eat my oatmeal:D and drink water.
The best tip I have seen was to increase the amount of fiber you eat each day. Go for something above the recommended amount--It is odd to me that the amount for women is lower. It might be because of weight? Men usually weigh more.

Shoot for 30 grams a day of fiber. That will require you to eat more good things and will lower the amount of sugar eaten. It is simple to follow which makes it easier to accomplish.

Another tip: toss that oatmeal that has sugar in it! It is infuriating that they take a good for you food and then mess it up by making it instant. Oatmeal is fast cooking even for old fashioned--it only takes 10 minutes. Quick oats are even faster.

We lived there for 6 years in the 60's because my dad loved worked for US Steel. He loved to travel, better pay and benefits, and gave me a really different childhood! Most girls played with dolls?make up? Dress up? I grew up climbing 75' mango trees to escapes from guests because I was painfully shy and enjoying running around outside all day as we had no t.v. or air conditioning. We did have Legos, cards, baby birds, dogs, pigs, a donkey, a macaw and fish at various times. Sometimes we snuck down to where the edge of the jungle was to play but you definitely kept an eye out for boas and poisonous snakes. We did go to the local clubhouse for swimming but more often than not played in the rain. When you were old enough you took horseback riding lessons until you were good enough to go out riding in the jungle or plains for 3-4 hours on Sat. You learned fast the hard way how to stay on your horse no matter what! If you didn't stay on, then you either ran smack into a huge downed tree, fell off a galloping horse onto hard ground or possible cactus or prickly tree/bushes or into a river. The horses were big, liked to test you, and consistently challenged you to see if they could throw or beat you off the saddle while full on galloping. No control meant big trouble and a wimpy horse the next several weeks. We often raced for several miles in the deep jungle. Huge felled trees were not uncommon. On rare occasions we had to race to beat the train when we heard it because we were on the wrong side of the tracks.
Wonderful reflections of that era in your childhood...thanks so much for sharing this..absolutely magical!

I too (although lived near a town) spent my childhood as often as possible at a local farm...I rode cows that were leaving the dairy after being milked, eventually the farmer purchased a shetland pony for me to ride, then a pony when I outgrew the shetland...we too had no television in those days...I was too busy at the farm...collecting eggs from the free range chickens, feeding pigs in their stall...the smell of that feed was nauseating but...that farm was my dream...and now I have realised that dream...pigs will come soon...I adore them as pets...

I digress ...want to hear so much more of your wonderful times...

JWB, I'm kind of in the same boat with weight. I'm not sure if it will effect my insurance, but the Drs have been talking to me about increased risk for metabolic syndrome post-transplant. I'm already on insulin with the steroids and I've had bp issues for years. I've decided I've just got to get a good handle on my carbs and my weight, and increase activity. One nice thing is my office is very health-oriented so there aren't tempting foods brought in, and they're supportive of exercise on breaks. They even have some equipment in the meeting room I may have to figure out. Our office isn't in the best neighborhood and several of the ladies are nervous about walking alone. Plus, inside has air conditioning

.

I was thinking the other day about the cute things my kiddos used to say. One I loved was, instead of sweet dreams, they'd say sleep dreams. I was telling Sugar Monkey (he's 14 now) about how much I loved that---I could see him kind of mull that over a few minutes, then he looked puzzled. "It's not sleep dreams?" Far as I'm concerned, it sure is kiddo!

Big Boy's thing I loved was "We make a good teamwork".

I've put an ad for my Marans chicks, they're active and doing well and I need to move some out to make room for the new chicks in the hatcher

. And of course I loaded two dozen more eggs up on the incubator this morning. And I've ordered two dozen more to be delivered late this week.......he's going to regret building me that big ol incubator

'sleep dreams' make more sense.
My son would say 'don't let the bad bugs bite.'
true.

Rachel, If they have an elliptical use it.
You can start out slow and low and it is easy on the joints.
After last year's four months of flu , cold, pneumonia and then respiratory allergies I could not do five minutes on it.
I was depressed.
Then I read this:
0bac6f1bf97b028346c45314e93bf04b.jpg

I figured I would break it up into four five-minute efforts.
I got better with the new allergy shots and now I am up to 2 hours -an hour at a time -and I can't believe how quickly it gets easier.
I was in bad shape. I still keep my inhaler close by while I exercise, but Wow. I love my elliptical.
I have only lost 13 pounds but I am much stronger.
As they say, the year will pass whether you work out or not.

Good luck to all of you and do not give up. We are doing this for us to be healthy and comfortable, It is not for looks or compliments- it is because we deserve it.
We have taken care of children, parents, spouses, pets, animals, houses. yards. gardens, and businesses -and it is our turn.

You are so very close.  You certainly can do this!  How many pounds would you have to shed to get to the 29.9?  Is it a realistic and safe amount to be able to do in the time limit?  If not, don't do it.  If so, enter the race!  You have a cheering section right here!  I find that my wt drops if I stay busy at lunch time.  Eliminate caloried drinks:  an other wt buster.  But, don't substitute artificial sweeteners.  They are head ache inducers for me.

I am close! My son (who is a body builder) talked to his trainer. He said i need to drop 10-15 lbs. I have a month. I'm not starving myself & I work full time, so I can't stand at my teller line jogging in place or doing jumping jacks, but I do have an hour lunch that I have been utilizing to walk at a graveyard near my work. :D

I don't drink sodas, only if we are at a party or something. I drink water, water, water, unsweetened tea with lemon, and 2 small cups of coffee in the morning. No one wants me to give that up......trust me.

Ronott, I will try to up my fiber. Thanks for the advice.

Hbhoffman, wish that was an option, but they will be out in a month to retest. I've just got to work my butt off.....literally! But it will save me $2,400 a year if I can manage to do it.
