WOW! That *is* a ton of pork! So awesome! Glad it is done. Enjoy the rewards.Welcome, willzpapa! And thanks for the prayers, always gratefully accepted.
I'd forgot today was the butcher date for our hogs. So, that's where we spent much of the afternoon. The truck was a little late, but once those guys get going they're amazing! It's always a pleasure to watch someone do a job they're so good at. They make it look effortless, when I know how much it takes for Honey and I to butcher a little ol chicken...and they're doing a 300lb hog! Anyway, it took them right at an hour to butcher both hogs. We'll get actual hanging weights from the butcher, but they estimated them around 300lbs each, making each half about 100lbs. We're giving one half to the person who housed them for us, so we'll have a good 300lbs of pork in the freezer in a few weeks. We were able to buy our feed in bulk this year and that saved us a lot of money. Honey estimated off the top of his head we have about $600 in them, that includes purchase price, feed and butcher fees. We still have to pay cut and wrap and smoking/curing to the butcher shop, but we'll come in less than we used to when buying feed by the sack.
Great on the pork! Wow, I'd be in hog heaven with that much pork in the freezer. (Look, don't roll your eyes and groan. Somebody was gonna say it so I might as well be me!)
hb, glad Julia is doing so much better with the new treatments. But I sure am sorry about the car problems. I know first hand how critical a reliable vehicle is, especially when you have little ones who often need medical care at unexpected times.
I posted a video of Kendra's big day on a couple of other threads, but if it wouldn't bore you all I'd sure love for you all to see it too. It was simply amazingly spectacularly fabulous - especially seeing how much she was loving it.
HB--I'm a fan of the big Z all the way. Amazingly enough, when they gave me a 2 week course (yep, 2 weeks of Zithromax!) when I left the hospital last time, my cough and other respiratory symptoms resolved. Finished the med, and they gradually came back. Shocker.
The more I'm thinking it over, the less pleased I am with the care I've been getting locally. I'm not quite sure how to broach changing providers. I would mean driving to Medford, just 30 min down the freeway so no biggie really. I just feel this particular PA has dropped the ball more than once, and there's no confidence there. I'll see how things go at this week's appointment.
I may just suck it up and drive to Portland once a month or so, to alternate with the trips they make down here. I don't know.
X a million!Rachel, you have to have confidence in your providers. Otherwise, you'll be second-guessing them and worrying they aren't performing up to snuff.
That's my 2 cents worth anyway.
