My leukemia's back.

Morning all!

yep, it's auction day

.

I don't have much of a problem not buying anything. I'm not buying birds from there, too much risk of disease. I've brought in a lot of birds recently, something I've never done before, and I need to close my flock back down for a while. And, we're maxed out on the number of hooved animals we're zoned for, so no more of them.

Looking at new properties, I've told Honey one thing I want to be able to do, though, is to pick up some of those animals that are a good buy to just slaughter right away. Folks send old sows through, they're 500+ lbs and go for like $0.30 a lb. If I just had a place to house her for a week or so, however long it took the mobile butcher to have time to get there, that's a lot of pork! I've also seen a freemartin cow (freemartin means she's sterile) go for $0.65/lb. She was only 2 years old, I have no idea why folks weren't bidding on her like she was a beef. Looked like she was made of meat to me

. I'd have brought her home and had a freezer full of beef.

Anyway, I just like to go to hang out. I don't do much for entertainment. I grew up going to the weekly Saturday night horse auction as a teenager, and this kind of brings that back. Course, I almost cry when I see what horses go for here, but thankfully there aren't many. Lots of goats, though, it seems to be big goat country.

The Locusts and I got most of the front room of the barn cleaned out yesterday. Honey's finishing it right now. We've got to decide if we're going to replace the elevated floor or put down gravel and maybe cement. It looks like at least two of the joists have broken, so that's an expense we weren't expecting.

Hope you all have a great Saturday!
