My leukemia's back.

I was thinking of meat rabbits, but I look at a rabbit carcass, and a Cornish cross carcass, and I can easily tell which I want to invest in. The rabbits just don't look like much.

You gotta get the right rabbits and don't let then go past the optimum time...I think you slaughter New Zealand's at 6 wks....very little input feed wise. I'm just thinking a little variety...I can only easy so much chicken and fish....not really interested in raising pigs...that's all. And I like rabbit meat a lot.

Not to mention they breed like.....well rabbits.....
Who says?!!

Seriously, I remember meeting a fella at a rabbit show one time that had been in rabbits for a long time. He was telling me about how he got into rabbits. "I bought a pair," he said. "Guess how many I had at the end of a year." I knew it was a trick question, so I refused to bite. Finally, he told me. "One," he said. "The other one died." I just laughed. "That's rabbits! And that's why I say mine put their little heads together and ask each other, 'how can we drive her crazy today?'"

My dad raised meat rabbits for a few years, selling them to a commercial buyer. He had no problem breeding them, but then he culled heavily for bad mothers, etc. By the time he sold out he had a pretty tight group that were very productive. But I'm still just not that into rabbit......and I do like raising pigs!

Breathing is actually doing a bit better, I think. The increase of the inhaled steroid seems to be helping, and I'm down to 15 mg a day on the prednisone. Just waiting for my chipmunk cheeks to return to normal

. Oh yeah, and lose the 10+ lbs I gained since I started the steroid. I still get winded doing things like feeding the horses, or pretty much anything that's a bit of exertion. Bending over takes the wind right out of my sails. But, I can do pretty much what I want, I even took a flight of stairs the other day! I just have to stop and rest/breathe after. Oddly, Honey always seems to call me just when I walk back in the house and can't breathe--the change in air from the cold to the warm seems to hit me. So, I answer the phone, but can't talk but 1-2 words a sentence til I catch my breath. Impeccable timing that man has!

He and I joined the "new technology" last night, we finally got smart phones. Been spending the day working with mine a little at a time, that's about all the poor brain can take. I hate that I've apparently lost my ability to use/learn new things easily. Not sure how much is the chemo, and how much is just age. Then again, I never ever liked getting a new phone. Change is bad

Good morning Rachel and everyone!

Rachel, it's good to hear your breathing is getting a bit better. Welcome to the new smart phone era...I feel your pain! We had to switch over from our "dumb" phones to the smart phones about a year ago. There are probably features on mine I still haven't figured out but as long as I can make/receive phone calls, text DH and take a few photos, I'm good. Neither one of us are all that big on spending time on the telephone anyway.

Hope everyone has a good day!

I have not figured mine out yet either. I have no chemo brain. it is just not ...okay full disclosure, I never really figured out how to use the mobile phone either.
I'd rather not be on the phone. I hate the phone.
I text, send photos...and sometimes use it to receive a call...

For the first few weeks, my smart phone ("smart aleck" phone when I'm feeling nice; something a little different when I'm not) was my antagonist, now it has become my friend. Such technology is wasted on me. My son is a real techie, of course, so he loves exploring new apps. A few days ago, someone wanted to know the name of a song, son whips his phone out, says, "GOOGLE, WHAT SONG IS THIS," and his phone identified it. Super neat trick!

But even my phone seems to be a bit . . um . . technologically challenged. A couple of nights ago, my mother sent me a text message, and I received it 14 times. I replied to it 6 times before my response finally got through, too.

Rachel, your dad had the rabbit thing exactly right. If you want numbers, you gotta be all about numbers, and cull ruthlessly. You can't have pets or play favorites, and you have to dump them when the numbers start to slide. It's kind of like the "production" breeds of chicken - there are serious egg producers out there, but they don't last long. If you start off with a few random animals where nobody was selecting for anything, you have no idea where you are, and it may take a few generations to get headed in any sort of a direction (by which time, a lot of people will have given up in sheer frustration).
