My leukemia's back.

Phil, you know what gets me about ducks? They look like they're smiling! I love my chicken girls but you sure can't say they look smiley. I need ducks for the smiles

I count by breed/color also. My roosters get names after they've proven they can live here, but most hens don't get named....unless I'm selling them

. I've found folks like them to have names when I advertise them.

Main coop is Eric and Gabriel, the two boys. Two barred hens, the Rhodebar, two light Brahmas, 6 black chickens (2 aussies and 4 bcm). Those are the big girls. Then there's the blue trio, and the light blue and splash sisters. I think that's everyone.

The only other pen I really count is the littles, to make sure no one died. 1 Faverolles, 3 barred Rocks, 2 blue sex link pullets, 2 blue sex link cockerels. Then a quick 1-5 on the bantam cochin hens in the same pen (they're basically all black) and the silkie rooster Glen.

When I range the cockerels I do count them when I put them up, to be sure everyone gets back inside. 4 bigs and 4 littles and 1 inbetween, that's pretty easy.

I changed my ringtone on my new phone to a duck quacking

. About drove my poor dog nuts! Had the kids double checking the brooder to see if I'd added any ducklings......

I was in a public bathroom at the Florida aquarium washing my hands when this frog started croaking. I went to look for the guy to rescue it, when the lady next to me said, "Oh! it's alright! It's my phone!"

Rachel, that's curious what you mentioned about people liking the hens to have names when you advertise them. Wonder why that is?

I suppose she'd only need a few names, as long as she doesn't sell the same name to the same person twice.
All of our hens are named Buffy.
I needed a blond rooster.
and a redhead hen.
Xander is a great name... but what kind of rooster would that be?
A drake maybe.

And angel went off and had his own show, so he doesn't get to stay.

Most of the folks buying birds seem to have smaller flocks and are more personal with their birds, they view them more as pets. And pets should have names.

I tend to call my buff hens Buffy, barred hens Barbie, red hens are Annie....just in my mind. When I'm selling I try to go for old-fashioned names, folks seem to like those. I had two I called Lucy and Ethel that I had so many responses to!

Xander might be just fine for a buff Orpington rooster. Yep, he was a goof in the beginning, but he really stepped up later on. Slow to mature, but worth it in the end.

Or you could go with Spike......

I've been re-watching Buffy while I'm home recently. It's been a while since I watched Angel, that may have to be next. I really liked Wesley's character development.
