My leukemia's back.

Common problems of the modern age. I also have low vitamin D levels which affects many different things, too. Luckily I have always lived where there are sunny skies and short winters so the light is not needed for too long!
What is your blood calcium level?

When last checked it was in the normal range, but I don't remember the actual number. I have to get a new doctor since we moved, so I'll get everything checked again after the first of the year.

Yes, getting a new Dr. is usually when it is "discovered" after years of having the problem.

Low vitamin D, especially when you get plenty of sunlight is a symptom.
FridayYet...

You should have Vitamin D3 supplements...they are THE sunshine Vitamin....
If you have hyper parathyroid, which causes hypercalcemia, taking Vitamin D is a bad thing. Before taking Vitamin D, make sure you do not have this.

Everyone should know their blood calcium number because Dr.s ignore this. It is very under diagnosed but will kill you faster than high cholesterol.

I do, I take 1,000 mg a day when I remember

. Took high doses when I was first diagnosed, then tapered down as my labs stabilized.

Need to get more faithful about taking them so I can get an accurate reading next time I go in. I've been a bit of a slacker since we moved here.

Playing "ketchup" again today. Wasn't on much yesterday because of that little detail called life. And as usual it wasn't my life with the issues, but the kids' lives that took over mine.

Rachel, I'm so excited for your family and Echo! I so wish I could have seen his face when you told him! You know, Echo is sort of like George Bailey in "It's a Wonderful Life" and you and Honey, are his Clarence. By giving Echo a second chance, you have probably made every life he comes into contact with in the future better - he'll have a positive impact everywhere he goes. One decision, one compassionate opening of hearts, and so many things can be affected.

Kendra has had a bad cold, really bad, for days. Thursday night, the night of the tow truck incident, she was so sick it was awful. I was irritated that they took her with them because I didn't think she needed to be out and about, but as it turns out if she'd stayed with us she'd have ended up going out and about anyway. So yesterday I took her in. She has an ear infection and a sinus infection. Poor baby. But the humorous part was the green glasses. Katie had a pair of kid's sunglasses and the lenses had long since vanished, but she wore them all the time when she was little. Kendra discovered them on Thursday and wore them all day long. She looked like a Little Professor! Friday when she was here she put them of first thing in the morning and kept them on all day long. She wore them to the doctor's office even. I picked up her prescriptions and dosed her right away.

A few weeks ago she had snapped the tension cables on her new braces. The stupid things have never fit her correctly, nor were they torqued correctly, but they were all she had since she'd outgrown the cables on the last set. We were afraid it meant another trip to Denver to get them fixed or replaced, and none of us can do that right now. So we put her back in her old ones. Her therapist said there is a small husband/wire prosthetics company in Cody and that the guy is very good, so we called him. Even though Kendra didn't get her braces from him, he was more than willing to take a look at them. So after her doctor's appointment in Lovell at 11, she had a prosthetics appointment in Cody at 3. This guy was GOOD! We took both sets of braces in and he was able to replace the snapped sections of cable with what he had in stock, then he attached them to her old brace belt because the new one was way too big. The belt and the attached AFOs were the only part of the first pair that fit. After he got all that done, he adjusted them for perfect size and tension.

Well, the Little Professor, with her dose of "feel better fast" medicine, fell asleep at 2:15 while we were on our way up there. She also slept through the entire fitting, the repairs, and the adjustments. Ken carried her out to the car and she slept all the way home. When we got here, about 5:30, Jenny woke her up. She didn't stir much....until Jenny tried to take off the glasses. Kendra pulled Jenny's hand away and said, "Top it!" and "Dat's enough" so we left them on her. As far as I know, she could well have gone to bed with them on!

Katie in the green glasses. I guess she was probably 3 here.

The Little Professor, admiring her reflection in the quilt cabinet. In this shot she's wearing her old braces, and the foam strap I'd invented had come loose - again. You can see how much too small they are for her by where the cable sits.

The Little Professor heading for Cody and her appointment. She will NOT take those glasses off.

Sleeping through all the manipulations, taking off and putting on the braces multiple times, and the adjustments.

Blooie, cute pictures of the girls and glasses! Glad you were able to find someone closer to fix Kendra's braces. Oh to be able to sleep so soundly, lol.
