My leukemia's back.

I'm so glad I don't live in snow country anymore.

Well, it was going to be a quite morning, until I got the dreaded call...."Mom, I think I broke my wrist". Big Boy has a total of 5 broken wrists, so he usually knows what he's talking about. He was working on his smoker in metals and dropped the door on his left wrist. I get to the school and it's pretty swollen, but not too painful. Well, I don't have x-ray vision (sure would have come in handy with this kid, let me tell you!) so off to the Urgent Care we went. And for the fifth time this month, no, no one in my family has been to west Africa or in contact with anyone with ebola. Sigh. aren't they over that yet? Anyway, amazingly the x-ray was negative to the NP on duty. They'll still have a radiologist read it of course, but looks like his streak is broken

. I'm so glad, I was not looking forward to 6 weeks of bagging an arm for showers, and the casts get so stinky on a teenager no matter what you do, they're just foul. So, just a fiberglass splint for a week, then he can go to a brace if he wants but should be okay to just use it at that point. Thank you Lord!

Speaking of icky casts, we've found using vet wrap on the outside helps keep is nice and clean, so we went by the Grange to pick up a few rolls in cool colors. There was a familiar white truck in the parking lot--Honey was sitting there doing some charting. Daytime smoochies

in the parking lot.

Since I was already dressed and out and about, I went ahead and went down to Medford for some shopping. And lunch, but I think I'm getting burned out on the seafood cause it just wasn't that great this time. Probably don't need to be spending the money anyway, but it was a nice treat for a while.

I want a mountain on an island in the middle of a lake too! With a big ol chicken day care for when all my friends come visit

If the cast is small, you can get umbrella bags to cover the cast. A lot of places have them out for the public when it rains. I saw some at Walmart in Woodland last Saturday.

It is great to hear that the wrist is not broken!

So glad it wasn't broken.
We got the bill for my son's emergency surgery today and he was about in tears.
They listed the hospital as out of network.
he kept apologizing.
I kept saying. don't worry it is is mistake, it happens, don't worry.

And he said, "haven't you ever MET me? I worry!"
his dad had to bring it up on the computer and show him that his 40,000 dollar bill was in network and luckily it was on the last day of last year when it was a 700 dollar deductible.
I am just happy it happened at home and he is well and healthy.

Thankfully he is still covered under state insurance so we're good there.

3GE, I can't tell you how stressed I was over finances when I was first diagnosed. I fully feel your boy's anguish. I was far more worried about bills than leukemia. The doctors said they could fix me and I believed them. A quarter million dollar bill for my first stay? I about had a stroke, I'm not kidding. Thank God for Medicaid. Glad things worked out well for your deductible, too

Big Boy's now just happy it's his left wrist, he's okay to bowl this weekend. He's also meeting a girl at the bowling alley tomorrow night. Not calling it a date, but I'm pretty sure he's going to get gussied up before he goes. I'm wondering if the door to the smoker is too heavy, but he says he's adding counter weights to it to manage the door better. I asked him for pics cause I can't get a good visual of this smoker, but it sounds massive. I know they're having issues getting an appropriate trailer to haul it, so I'm really not sure what we're in for

Rachel, glad to hear your son's arm isn't broken. It sounds like he's been through that enough already. You're going to have to share a picture of that smoker when he gets it home...it sounds huge!

Eggsy, sorry but I had to chuckle with that line from your DS "haven't you ever MET me? I worry!". I'm glad he's doing well.

Good grief - leave you guys on your own for a few hours while we drive to Riverton and all kinds of stuff happens! So glad your son didn't break that wrist, Rachel. I'd write more but I'm pooped tonight. Nite all!

Know your all's pain when it comes to bills. Our youngest first open heart surgery bill for just the bed and board alone was $650,000. The internal pacemaker was $50,000. Don't remember what the temporary external one was or the rest of the costs. It usually runs around $500,000+?? if nothing goes wrong- and it usually does! At 13 she's on her 5th pacemaker now. When they had us a bill of less than $20,000 we are grateful- still wonder how to pay our 20% of it but grateful!
We have talked about putting netting up but in a .5 acre fenced area, that would be expensive and difficult. For now the 3 hens that are left get penned up in a 4' x 6' hardware cloth predator proof pen. The hawk is not afraid of dogs either.

Rachel- Glad it was not broken! And when he done with fixing the smoker, I vote putting some pork ribs in there for bbq! I also vote for more smooching in parking lots with your honey! So glad you wrote that.
Sour, Glad to have you back!
Blooie and Phil, Enjoy yourselves and stay safe! And Phil, just no! There's no way you could drag me out to -10'! But I'm in for boats on a lake on a private mountain with a private dr. station and coops for the chickens! Then add a pacific private tropical retreat for winter and I would be grateful! My donations would be going to what you all said plus genetic research and advancement of heart and sleep apnea issues and service dog training! Hope you all stay warm and find nice eggs!

Don't have time to catch up this morning, got to get ready for work. But I wanted to share a quick story. I was listening to the radio yesterday on my lunch & they have a little "tell me something good" segment each day.

An 11 year old girl called in and said she just got home from her doctor's appointment. She is 7 years in remission and the doctor doesn't think it's going to come back at this point. If you could've heard that little girl's voice & knowing she's only a year older than my young one...... I started crying.

You all have a good day! :)
