My leukemia's back.

Hello to all my friends.

I think this the longest I've been offline in years!

Back home tonight, I'm pretty much whipped. So glad to be home, and to be able to sleep with my Honey tonight.

Mom's doing about as expected. Thankfully it was all pretty peaceful, and Hospice was wonderful, and her pastor has been very supportive. I got to see my brother I've not really seen for a few years, and my eldest sister and I spent a lot of time together also. We got all the medical stuff cleared out of the house, all the meds disposed of, things like that. He's going to be cremated and we'll wait for a memorial service until June, when my sister from Arkansas can get out easier.

My order of hatchery choice pullets came while I was gone. Honey's friend thinks I have a nice mix of SLW, some Reds, white Leghorns, barred Rocks, I can't remember what else. All alive and kicking. Honey picked up 5 cuckoo Marans from the feed store and we lost one. So, losing two out of however many I've got this year, pretty darn good percentage!

I'll read over everything else tomorrow. Thank you all for the prayers and good wishes.

:caf   Just checking in... Oh I hope they have a grreat time, Blooie!  Make a wish has an awesome facilty and good relationship with Disney.  :)
So far Have lost 3 chicks this month... all tiny or needing intense care. We tried our best but a glad we are no longer on call 24/7!
Here's a couple of questions for you all.... When you buy chicks what do you transport them home in? Do you bring it or do they provide it? If you had to buy something to transport them home in, would you prefer a disposable cardboard or reusable plastic container? What price range would you pay for it? I am asking because I have an idea for chick transport but am just wondering what others do. Thanks for thinking and sharing!
OOHH! My legs are cramping! Need to get to bed....

I always use a cardboard box. Keeps the heat in and disposable to prevent any unwarned germs. I put newspaper at the bottom of the box. I burn the box once it's served its purpose. I usually don't spend any money on it. Always a spare box somewhere, or can get them free for the asking at local grocery and hardware stores. For bigger birds, I use dog carrier crates.

Welcome back Rachel, it's good to have you back again. How nice you were able to see your sister and brother again. I'm sure your mother was glad to have the three of you there. Hugs to all of you.

.

Hb, if I were to buy chicks from a private person, I'd expect to bring my own container. If you're selling chicks and want to be able to provide a box, I'd order boxes from the USPS. The're free and you can get them shipped to you, and all sorts of different sizes. The person we used to buy feeder mice from did that and I thought it was a wonderful idea. I just ordered a variety of sizes for shipping eggs or other swap items.

Okay, off to forage for food and check on all these baby chicks I got while I was gone

Hi everyone!

I have been meaning to get back on BYC but have been so tired of late that most of my days are spent sleeping...playing catch up on all of the past few months of pain and restless nights, 2 hours sleep would be as much as I could manage at any one time...still in a lot of pain with my foot...looks as if I have zips for feet these days!

The anaesthetist lied to me...anaesthetic did not work and after I was scraped off of the ceiling...I was immediately given a general anaesthetic! I woke up with an oxygen mask on my face and that was it!

Glad to be back with you all and a special thanks to Little Lake Phil for the pm's!

I have been reading a little way back and am updating myself with all of your news...

Rachel I am so very sorry to hear of your sad news...I have no words of comfort for you save to say that your Dad lives on in you...we learn to live with our losses and our memories are our treasures.

Blooie...great news of Kendra...

Praying for all of you here

Lots of love to you all!

p.s. Only 2 chickens died while I was in Hospital and my Husband is now rebuilding the whole stable area and that means new coop, new duck and goose housing and three stables for horses and donkeys....amazing how he can do these long overdue tasks when he has to do the work for the animals....!

Wonderful to hear from you Suzie! You've been missed and I hope your foot is recovering.

Share pictures of your new coop when it is finished. We'd love to see it.

Continuing to pray for your recovery.
