When I went through a class on Prius maintenance for work..... It was when they were dealing with the whole runaway Prius crisis...... They told us if you want to stop a Prius that's running away.... Throw the smart key out the window..... Some where between 100' and three miles it will stop.....
You were fed a line of bull.
First the "runaway Prius":
That was such a farce but Toyota fell on their sword for it. Cut the bottom off the accelerator pedals on all the existing cars as a recall in case the floor mat could get stuck. No properly installed OEM mat comes even close to the pedal including the heavy rubber winter mats. I know of only 2 instances where there were claims of runaway in a Prius. One was someone's housekeeper driving the "someone's" Prius. Didn't know the car, got to the end of the drive hit the gas instead of the brake and shot across the road. Fortunately no one was coming on the road. Like a Prius's accelerator and brake pedals are any different than other car's? Check of the computer showed what happened. The other was a proven case of fraud in California. Guy on the freeway called 911, claimed the car was running out of control. Miles upon miles. Refused to put it in neutral when a CHP pulled up next to him because that would cause him to lose control

. Claimed he was hard on the brake pedal the whole time. They found that the wear pattern on the discs and drums showed he was not on the brakes trying to stop the car, probably enough to keep the brake lights on though. The couple had over $200K in debts but claimed they weren't trying to screw Toyota (which they didn't).
BTW, if you try to put a Prius in Park or Reverse when it is moving forward at more than 1 or 2 MPH, it will go into neutral. Since there is nothing mechanical between the shifter and the transmission, if the car is going less than those speeds, it will stop and do the action requested, though there will be a slight lurch, best to be doing 0 MPH first

And once you are doing 0 MPH you can put it in Park by shutting the car off, it will automatically be put in Park first.
Another BTW, sadly I am suspicious of the off duty CHP that had the loaner "runaway" from the dealer with improperly installed floor mats that got stuck on the accelerator. I have to believe a cop would be well enough trained to put a car in neutral if it were a runaway. Sounds to me like suicide and manslaughter.
Second tossing the SK out the window will do nothing but keep you from restarting the car after you shut it down. The car will run until you shut it down or run out of gas and electricity. So, if you are driving a Prius and drop someone off, make sure they don't have the only SK in the car
has been put into an estate (irrevocable) so things can be changed if desired.
That would be
REvocable
