slight freak out on my part.

Trying to pack.... we bought clothes and shoes... but no new luggage.



Then my mom today is all " your youngest walks funny, I made an appointment with a chiropractor for him." Did that this afternoon.

Trying to pack, leaving tomorrow at 6:30 am.....

mom says "take a bunch of your dad's ties"

Yeah.... they don't take much space , even a bunch of ties.... but I think that started my stress.....

My dad always dressed nice ... custom made suits, ties. ... cowboy boots....

My stress level just went up reading your post!

Al, maybe the ties, and some of the items could be boxed, and mailed? Most airlines only allow a certain amount of luggage, and/or certain weights on the luggage that's included in the price of the tickets. Mailing the stuff you don't need immediately will defray the cost, and you still get all the things you want to take home.

We got it all packed.... just we all have a checked bag....

Talking of stress. .. I asked mom, have a piece of luggage I could use? Mom says "yes, I have a full suitcase that I have been wanting to get up to Alaska... take that" "Full?" A full suitcase?" says I. "yes, full." said she.

I answered "Yes, mama"

Also... we are all flying to Portland ... my mom too.... but she flies up Thursday night, stays one night, leaves again Friday night (tickets bought when my dad was still alive... that was the most that she could be gone from him)

Eldest son is being tonsured a sub-deacon by the Metropolitan himself, on Friday. Spouse and only missing kid are flying down too. (you only need a bishop to make someone a sub-deacon, a Metropolitan is a huge step up.) (Orthodox church ranking.... Reader, Sub-deacon, Deacon, Priest, Bishop, Metropolitan. Youngest age for Sub-deacon is age 20, usually it us done close to 30. My kid is a few months shy of 20. The Metropolitan said he was impressed with my kid, so the age was close enough)

I had really hoped that my dad would get to see this... my dad was a Reader in the church. I had set it up so that it would be video taped for him. And yeah, yeah, dad can watch from where he is at.... But dudes... totally NOT the same.

Oh, after the Portland shindig my mom goes back to Houston, Eldest goes back to be with her in Houston for 3 more weeks, the rest of us go back to Alaska.

No, it's not the same. Linda wanted to be around for the day Ashley finally rang the "last chemo" bell. She did. But she also wanted to be there when her twin grandsons were born. Sadly, that didn't happen. People have said the same thing, that she's seeing them and watching them grow, but you're right...it's not the same.

Good for kid #1! I'm not familiar with your denomination, but I get that it's a really big deal! You must be so proud.

PS - "Yes, Mama" was the right answer to the full suitcase, no matter what a pain it might be...

Kinda curious as to what that suitcase is full of! Then there is the TSA "has anyone given you anything to bring on the plane" question.
