My leukemia's back.

Ron, when my mother, and aunt got theirs done, and didn't need glasses anymore, I asked about it. I was wearing contact lenses at the time. To this day, I don't understand why they couldn't have done the lens implants early on in my life, saving me the need to buy contacts, glasses, etc. It would have been fixed, and done with. BUT, they can't do the lens implant surgery just to correct vision. You have to need the surgery for something, then while they're in there, they can put in the implants. I realize there is a bit of risk involved, as with any surgery, but it's so routine now, the risk is almost nonexistent. There was just as much risk wearing the contact lenses all those years.

Since I live in California and have been in the sun a lot, I am fairly sure I will need lense replacement some time. I will definitely get the vision correction then

Funny this conversation is going on now. We just got finished with our yearly checkup. I have cataracts... barely started. Been the same for a few years. Lucky me. No change since he first noticed. I've got a bit if stigmatism too. Not changing either. I sure have a hard time with getting a new prescription though. Last time I just went back to my old glasses. Not much of a change, very little in fact, but, for some reason. ? ? I just tried my new ones last week. Seemed off again. Plus they needed to raise the bifocal line. Not changing the prescription, will get my glasses back in a while, and give them a go. Keeping my old ones just in case again.

Always keep a spare, good plan!! I got glasses 13 years ago with frames I just loved. For 3 years I just kept having the new lenses put in those small purple frames. Then I decided to change things up a bit and got green frames. Mehh- okay but not great, although I still had my purple ones at home and since the prescription hadn't changed that much I ended up wearing those more. Next year, with the radical super-short haircut I went with blue plastic. Dr. Kim and her tech tried to talk me out of them but I was stubborn - and stupid because I hated them after a week. I could have taken them back, but I was embarrassed because they tried so hard to tell me. Back to the purples, which then promptly broke and were not repairable. So, then it was the greens. Well, then with how busy we got around here eye appointments got neglected for a few years. I had that eye infection so I went in, but exams? Nope. When I went in for a recheck I took my purples I and asked them to get me the same frames so when I got an eye exam I could have them, but after 3 weeks it was a no-go. Not made anymore. Still in the greens.

I’m so looking forward to no glasses at all! Oh, I know that there’s still a chance that I’ll need them - not everyone’s vision is corrected perfectly - but I can hope!

The cataract surgery was nothing. All I got was one valium. I was totally aware of what was happening - not happy about that. For the first eye I could see on the screen ahead of me, a needle/whatever being pushed into my eye. Didn't hurt but, I didn't want to see what was going on. Had one eye done - don't remember if the other eye was done in a week or two. But that time didn't see what the doctor was doing.

I did want to keep the same vision - right eye was near sighted, and left eye far sighted. He said he could do that. But he fudged that up, he switched em.- just the opposite. DUH!

Each time, then went out to lunch. Didn't hurt but putting the drops in was a pain because I kept missing the eye, and they ran down my face. Medicare says they pay for glasses after the surgery. Ha, they paid $ 28. try to get decent glasses for that little.

I did pay for bifocals but, couldn't adjust to using them. So don't wear them at all. For very tiny print, I have a small, strong magnifier, I used to check my plants for bugs.

Blooie, I especially love your middle photo. Your hair looks great too, to think some people have a stroke about women with white hair. They need to check out your photo.

Looking good Blooie. I have some older purple frames too! I was just telling hubby that I should just get new lens in those, because I liked the looks of them when I tried them on again the other night. Different shape than yours. The only thing I don't like is that they don't have the thinner frame. Cute shape though. I have some more round shaped ones coming. We'll see......

Thank you! At the risk of sounding conceited, I do love my hair color. Ken’s been after me for years to grow it back like it was, but I can’t steel myself for getting past that “too long so it looks shaggy, too short to do anything with” growing out stage. I actually posted these to show three pairs of glasses. The first were the purple ones, the middle the green ones, and the one with Little Diane and me the blue ones. I hated them so much I never even wore them on a cruise, which is why I have no formal photo with them on.

Oh, reusing frames saves a chunk of change sometimes, and when you have a frame you like, why not? My purple ones are the only ones I’ve had that fit right, and I got them from the kids’ selections!

You all are making me feel much better about this upcoming consult with the surgeon. Thank you for that!

Seems like the manufacturers love to stop making a particular frame after a couple of years. How many shapes can there possibly be such that 'these' are no longer 'fashionable' before then come back around to that shape/frame??

No more glasses is part of the reason I agreed so quickly!

But, but, we wouldn't recognize you!! Unless of course you keep wearing the tiara.

I have stigmatizm and the beginning of a cataract. I’ve had glasses since I was 5. Tried contacts a couple of times. The last time I tried them I wanted to claw my eyes out, they bothered so much. Part of my issue with contacts is, they have to be so thick with my prescription that the instant I walk into a heated or air conditioned building they dry out.

The idea of anyone messing with my eyeballs and doing something permanent to them ooks me out. I would flip out watching my eye getting poked with a needle would probably send me over the edge.
