She said it would 2 business days before she had the results, so that’s Friday. Monday, while she was in the cancer advocate’s office going over her procedures and aftercare, she got a phone call that her beloved dog Piper was found in her crate dead, ano so were her turtles and lizards. (Don’t ask). Looks like carbon monoxide. So she shut down the furnace, opened some windows, turned on her kitchen and bathroom vent fans, and stayed with a friend Monday night. That night or the next morning her pipes froze and burst in the bathroom, but she didn’t realize it then because she didn’t go upsfairs. Fire department came out Tuesday afternoon, but because she’d turned off the furnace the afternoon before and totally ventilated the house, they couldn’t find anything. But they did leave her a more sensitive detector, one that logs readings, and told her to call if she went back to the house and saw anything on the detector. They went back Tuesday night and that’s when they discovered the burst pipes. She is just like the rest of us - can’t catch a break.
She’s staying with Mike’s mom, who is a retired nurse, so I’m sure her aftercare will at least go smoothly. Mike and his dad are going over to her house and see what they can do about the damages. I’ve hated that rickety old house since she bought it - when it rains the basement floods, the furnace and hot water heater must be older than I am, and Ken told her that it needs a total electrical overhaul. But it’s her very own, she bought it all on her own, and she loves its “character”.
