Howdy yal! I just wanted to share a bit about my little "farm" and my gardening plans!
I'm on 1 acre. I have 10 chickens. My garden consists of tomatoes, bell peppers, cucumbers, green beans, strawberries, marigolds, sunflowers, and zinnias! Yesterday I found 4 long planks buried in my yard. I believe that they may be treated, but would it still be okay to make a raised bed out of them?
We are hoping to expand in the future, maybe adding goats or ducks. Also, I won't be keeping all 10 of my chickens because I believe that I have at least 2 roosters. If yal want to share your mini homestead plans, please do! I'd love to hear them!

Sounds neat! We are kind of doing a "modified" homestead, if you can call it that. :gig
We have 6 acres, but most of it is wooded. We have about 2 acres around the house cleared, including the area the house is on, but we are limited in what we can do, due to HOA restrictions.
We moved here in August and the first thing we did was plant fruit trees (2 peach, 2 pear, and 2 apple). We are still deliberating on a garden spot, because we are finding the soil is rather sandy and has a lot of rocks and clay. This year I am planting in grow bags and have potatoes, carrots, peas, three kinds of tomato, lettuce, cucumbers, onions, garlic, and spinach. I did plant pumpkin and watermelon in the ground, along with strawberries in both a pot and in the ground. I also planted sunflowers. I also have an herb garden on the porch.
We just discovered we have a lot of wild blackberry plants (after I planted 2 bushes. Lol). Also some wild blueberry. We have four chickens, but no other livestock.
I also started a compost pile.

That sounds so lovely!

That sounds so lovely!

I love it! I am so excited to grow our own food and do some canning. I have always had an herb garden, even when we lived in town, plus I have always gardened, just was limited with space.

Good luck with your homestead! We have used treated wood for raised garden beds before with no problems. We have also used pallets.

Ok! I love having a garden and space!

We live on about three acres. I raise chickens and ducks. I’m hoping to add goats because I fell for goats charm when my nieghbors got some! I’ve been begging my family for years but they keep saying no!!:(
I know why they say no and it’s reasonable. I’m in love with all sports. This spring I’m doing soccer basketball and track. I have at least on practice for one sport every night. I just don’t have time! I LOVE goats!!

I don't have acreage but I do have a 100 year old home with a rather large backyard so I decided to turn it into a mini-homestead. Heres what I've got:

I have 4 6 week old chickens at one end of the yard.
I just planted 2 pear trees a few weeks ago, they are taking off!
I have raised beds and I grow my own green beans, zukes, tomatoes and rainbow chard. I also have a rather large raspberry patch I planted a couple years ago, a strawberry patch and a blackberry patch. This year I plan on trying, peppers, broccoli, cantaloupe, watermelon and kohlrabi.

I do can my green beans and make tomato sauce from the tomatoes. I also make lots of jam from the fruit. I have canned pears in the past so plan on doing that when the time comes.

My goal is to be as self sufficient as I can.

That sounds amazing! We have the same dream!!

We have 8,000 SQ feet lot with a house, garage, and old shed turned coop on it. Been here two years. Got my very first chickens 6 months ago... Only 3 birds. Looking into getting my broody hen some eggs or chicks, we have a 6 bird limit, no roosters in our town. Put in a veg garden, roughly 250 sq feet. Right now, have onions, spinach, lettuce, swiss chard, garlic, tomatoes, cucumber, bush beans, strawberries, and hopefully zucchini already going... Couple more spots to fill, oh plus herbs. I planted a flower cutting garden this spring. Just got a couple blueberry bushes, haven't even planted yet. We have a couple mature Walnut trees in our little yard, but so far the squirrels have enjoyed every one and us none... Working on that problem. Would like to add an apple tree and anything else we can squeeze in without looking totally loony to our neighbors who work (or pay) to keep their lawns emerald green, lol.
