My little mallard duck is dying....Please help i feel helpless:(

Little beau died early this morning. Sometime between 4 and 7am. She was alive at 4 and gone at 7. I'm heartbroken of course, last night I thought she was doing so much better. Eating, drinking, pooping, etc. I'm wondering if she didn't have a seizure? The way she was when I found her....on her back legs straight out in front of her, her neck was in a very unnatural position, curled back. Another observation i made last night when i was holding her, she had a little bald spot on top of her head and it seemed as if she had a soft spot there like human babies. is this normal? and im still curious about the little tiny feathers on her legs, ive never seen that before..........Anyway, she's gone. No more suffering and struggling and that is a good thing.
I appreciate all the help and suggestions very very much. I will be searching for nutrition drench to have on hand!

She may have been crested - the soft spot on the head - and sometimes that is related to seizures and neurological problems. So good she had you to care for her even for a short time.

Her momma and daddy (actually brother and sister) both came from a white crested. Now I wonder IF because the ducklings parents were brother and sister could that be why she was in such ill health? Mind you she was perfectly fine for the first 5-6 days of her life.....

I'm so sorry to hear about Beau, but like Amiga said thankful she had you to care for her, I think that line is very fine when brothers and sisters breed and produce young, and especially if 2 created breed together that is a lethal gene. You did all you could.

Thank you, I'm very sad, I wanted her to survive and live among the rest of my beloved ducks and geese....
So you think because her parents were brother and sister, offspring of a crested white Peking and a magpie that she was doomed because of that? I feel desperate to know why? What happened? Is there more I could have done to help her? Such a crappy helpless feeling.....

Honestly All I know about the crested is what I've read on here, but it's 2 crested that should breed, but I believe brother is sister isn't good either. There is quite a bit of info on here about crested ducks if you type into search you'll see it all. just found this not sure if it will answer any question though.. https://www.backyardchickens.com/newsearch?search=breeding+brother+to+sister

I'm so sorry about your little Beau. I would be devastated. I love all my birds but my ducks and geese are special and leave the biggest hole when they are no longer with me.
