just asked me something "Mom why are all the colonies(calories) in the cake and not in the salad?"
any takers who want to explain? any other questions that three year olds ask?

A calorie is the measure it takes to heat 1 cubic centimeter to the boiling point. There are different types of calories, coming from fat, protein, and carbohydrates. Some foods are denser.

Lettuce consists mostly of water, hence its low caloric count.

Cake is densely laden calories from its ingredients, which include protein (eggs and flour), fat (oil, eggs, butter), and carbohydrates (sugar, flour).

10 calories of cake and 10 calories of lettuce will look very different.

Great question from your kid!!

Try explaining that to a grumpy three year old that doesnt get a snack cake . She wanted the calories out of the cake and put into the celery and cucumber sticks.

I suppose the answer given depends upon the age of the child?

Especially when they are just three.

Oh gosh, I only wish you could transfer the calories into something else.

Tell her that sugar has too many calories and leave it at that.

ETA - or that calories = energy and if she's going to bed, she doesn't need energy to sleep

She finally cracked and fell asleep beside me. All she was trying to figure out was how to take the colnies out, she even brought some saftey scissors and spoon to take them out. I guess she thought they were some kind of ingridient that we evil people put on there.
Gosh she was driving me nuts today, earlier on she got a hold of some iced mocha.
