My lovely yellow goldens.

It would appear that it works with a mix of light and dark factor genes then - and darkening with age.
Red Zebra finches have the darkening with age effect too, particularly with the males.
With pheasants that isn't the case. With these birds there is some unknown influence happening, I don't know if it's environmental, or nutritional. I haven't changed my feed nor their environment/habitat. All my Yellows from last year's hatch have the Tangerine look to them, so I don't think it's genetics, due to the fact I have 3 different bloodlines, plus the original bloodline I have had for 15 years now. Only until last year has this been evident across all bloodlines.

You have not changed anything.
But have you read the food packet ingredients?
We found a while back that one of the suppliers of finch seed was substituting a different, but similar millett. In our case it was a red millett, the original one was the 2nd favourite food, but the substitute, the birds would not eat.
In your case it could be something similar, in the sence of a substitution they have accepted, but it is having a colour effect?
Yes we got the problem solved by a big group of us getting together and informing the providers we would enmass go elsewhere if the did not fix it.

I am just so excited! It's happening so fast! :wee
I mean, not quite fast enough 😁, but the changes from day to day are pretty amazing!
He is dropping more and more of his orange hood too.

The girls are still laying the odd egg and Daffodil tried sitting on hers, but I just lifted her off and messed up the nest and she gave up within a day or two.

I have my feed custom milled, so I know there's no change.

You'll be happy with him when he gets his adult plumage! Should be a bright yellow.
