My lucky eggs!

After a horrible winter where predators wiped out almost all of my flock i decided to rebuild. I had 2 hens a pullet and a Roo. Hen number one is a BO, hen number two is a Hatch, and the roo is a Rir. Long story short the 2 girls had a real busy week one week so i decided to incubate the eggs thinking how could you go wrong with golden comets and some Rir game mix chicks. Well two weeks into incubating in my still air styrofoam and i come home to find the temp at 72 and the bator unplugged. Never the less i figured what the hay and plugged her back up (6 hours unplugged). Last week i come home to find it unplugged again with the temp around 70, not sure of the lenght of time on this one. Day 21 comes.... Nada Day 22 nada Day 23 and time to clean out nada... But then i hear a chirp. Now on day 24 i have 7 out of 12 hatched and atleast 2 more pippin and one zipping!

They surprise me sometimes too. I think that low temps are usually resolved with time. too high temps are usually fatal for long periods of time. However, it does take a while to make the central temp the same as incubator temp. I always just continue the hatch to see what happens in the end. Congrats on your hatch though!!!

Gee, sounds like you had a saboteur working against you! Glad you're having a good outcome. I currently have 16 eggs in the incubator and knew I would be extremely lucky if we didn't have a power outage during the 21 days, since we seem to have several a year. But, with only 1 week left, I seem to be having luck with my first attempt. No outages, nice steady temp & humidity and, when candled, all 16 have chicks. So excited! Although, as my boyfriend pointed out, "what are we gonna do with 16 more chickens?!" Hee, hee. I figure someone out there will want a couple, right?
