My male dog won’t protect but will eat my chickens

HELP PLEASE

My male Great Pyrenees will not protect my chickens! He has killed and eaten my chickens and rabbits, almost my ducks. And I have a female pup that is 5 months and my male is 1 year, I heard Great Pyrenees don’t mature till 2 but I need tips on how to make my dog learn to protect instead of want to chase and kill the instead!! He has also killed small animals and he is not fixed either, I want to let my dogs and chickens be together but I can’t when all he wants to do is kill them, it’s hard letting my chickens out of the coop because I have to put my male somewhere not near the chickens.. like I said PLEASE HELP

I know it’s hard to hear, but that dog will need LOTS of work. First off, no matter what people say, don’t fix him. It won’t change this behavior. You need to work on focus training. Put a leash on him. Look up how to get a dog to focus on YouTube. Do whatever it takes to keep him from killing anymore animals. Good luck!

Honestly if I were you I’d socialize that younger puppy with the chickens ASAP and just rehome the male or keep him in a yard far away from the chicks

Me and my mom have decided that our girl will be the one protecting our flock and he will protecting the bigger animals hopefully

I am right there in it with you. My son’s dog is a jerk to my chickens; she has been trying to eat them since the day I got them, and not in a funny haha I am going to play with these little squeaky thing that run around, but in a I am going to kill all these little squeaky things running around and give you nightmares for the rest of your freaking life. The cats however, they are cool with them. Eddie, our Nebalung, like to sleep with them...but he has always been a weirdo.

I have been leashing him and taking him in the coop and sometimes trying to let them out with him. But when I let the chickens out he chases them and I have to run after him. But when he is in the coop with them he acts cool and sometimes will lay down and watch them, idk why he is different inside and outside but I’ve been trying my best

The key, I believe, is consistency. He needs to be leashed every time he’s near the chickens, indoors or out until he learns that they are not play things. You also need to start with the pup ASAP so she learns, too.

Teach a very solid leave it (and I mean when you say "leaveit", he doesn't even look at a chicken.) Dog training is about communication and takes time.

Introducing my service dog to my chicks was easy because he has a solid leave it command, as he is trained to completely ignore other animals and even children pulling his tail in public. I have to remind him every once in a while not to go sniff them, but he never chases or bothers them now that he know I don't want him to. My other dogs are more of a problem and like to chase them, as they don't take my "leave it" as seriously and seem to think it expires when I look away. You want to start your training with less stimulating items such as toys or treats, and work up to chickens. There are many videos on YouTube about teaching "leave it". Just work with your dog and place him on a tie-out while training (secured to a tree or stake) so you are not using leash corrections, but voice control.
