I have 2 mallards. They aren’t quite a year old yet my male is becoming not sure what to call him. He will be in the pond. I can come out the door and go to my car and before I go back in he is out of the pond and u can hear him charging towards me. I can say his name and he will slow down. But then before I hit the door he is full force again. Once I get in the door he comes in and then he will turn around and go back to the pond. Sometimes if I don’t say anything once he reaches me he peeks at my feet. How can I stop him

It kind of depends on why he's doing it. He's a drake and drakes generally want to establish dominance and otherwise figure out the "pecking order." If it's dominance, you need to establish your own dominance. When he charges, grab him by the neck (not so hard as to injure but with a bit of force), pin him on his back to the ground and hold him there until he stops struggling. Do that a few times and you establish yourself as the "alpha drake."

Of course that's just if it's dominance. Maybe he's just really happy to see you. Are there any other parts of this "ritual?" Do you/did you ever give him treats or do anything that could be construed as encouraging this behavior?

No I just have them two mallards. He has never done this. He has just started doing this for the past couple of months. I have a cat and dog but I’ve always had them. They usually go after my little dog which they always have. He is smaller than them. I can pick them up hold them. They stay inside and come out during the day. They come right in and go to their pen when it’s time to come In. No treats they don’t like them. Or should I say they won’t eat them. So I’m not sure

This is my 1st set of ducks. Not really sure how they are supposed to act. I do know they are spoiled more than a set of ducks should be. Lol. But that’s what makes it so much fun. I would say they are pretty tame. She will eat out of my ya f but he just waits for her to dropped some and he will eat it. I handle him more than I do her. Should they be laying eggs. They pretty much stay in the water. Unless the pond is frozen. They may only stay out an hr or so but wasn’t really sure how the egg thing works

My Muscovy drake use to wait till I turned my back a started walking away then I could hear him walking fast up behind me but when I stopped an turn around he’d stop and look around like what? He never touched me,but with your drake if you don’t want him biting you stop him by putting something between you an him a rake, broom bucket something that will stop him in his tracks. I used a broom on one of my drakes, I stopped him and also would use it to push him out of the way if he wouldn’t quit. You can also flatten him on his belly put one hand behind his neck to keep him from biting and the other hand at base of where tail and body meet head facing away hold him down till he stops struggling. Let him up if he starts again getting him down again. Your treating him just like a dominant drake would. I am not encouraging abuse just teaching your drake his behavior is going to not be acceptable. It’s not an over night change but if you are consistent he’ll eventually get it.

Thank you guys so much. I have started doing it and it makes me feel bad but I understand why. I wonder if it could be because she has laid an egg in their bed Do I do anything with this egg. She isn’t sitting on it and I have just seen it. I was pretty excited there was an egg
