My male quail is a racist!

If I ended up segregating and adding another roo I figured I would need a separate pen

Chickens will do that, too. You know - birds of a feather flock together. I was a bit worried that would happen to my golden female. You may have to get her a white male.

3 eggs per day from 3 hens. Saw the white one lay an egg myself. She is a girl for sure. As for size, they are all about the same size.

Here is a picture of the eggs. I will upload a photo of the birds in a minute.

Well, if you have seen her lay an egg then that answers that question.

I would still like to stress the point that just because you don't see the roo (do his roo thing) with her. It doesn't mean that he isn't getting the job done at some point of the night or morning. Unserviced hens will usually brutalize an unwilling roo. As long as everyone is getting along fine. I wouldn't worry about segregating anyone.
The only way to know for sure if your white hens eggs are fertile (other than expensive scientific tests) is to incubate a few.

I don't want to sound like a smarty pants, but I think you are raising coturnix.

It is my experience that 90% of all roo damage to hens is caused by young/novice roos that don't have the whole "breeding technique" down yet. Some roos never get the hang of it, and are usually dinner around here. On other occasions, some birds are just totally incompatible with certain birds, but can be remixed and do fine.
Most roo scalping is actually done by hens. Coturnix hens can be very demanding!

Yes chickens do any number of things, but we are not talking about chickens, are we?
Last time I checked, we are talking about quail. I know for a fact that we are talking about quail, because it's the quail section.
That should be a clue for people to listen to people skilled at actually raising quail, and not chicken raising people giving bad quail info based on their experience with chickens.

I don't really want to take on a moderator, but your advice is WRONG!
It is not only WRONG, but could be costly as well as unnecessary.

There is nothing wrong with the OP's setup!

Wooooooo there!

While we are talking about quail, some of the behaviors in quail are also observed in other bird species like chickens and ducks. I also have ducks and I did have a khaki campbell drake that preferred darker brown hens. He would chase off a fawn and white runner (mostly white), and bred mostly with a khaki hen and a buff hen. It was not to the extent of what I am seeing in the quail though.

Miss Prissy's advice has been spot on in the time I have been on this board.

Chill pills all around.

Just a suggestion. smile

Not a demand.

I was already pulling out the bator before you posted.

Ok try this remove the two color hens for a day, sure like any male he will breed the only hen there even if its a white. the two color hens eggs will still be fertile. same with the white after breeding eggs will be fertile for a week.
