HI Everyone!
My mallard drake is charging everyone....the dog, the other duck etc....he is one and half years old and he has never done this...he has always been a very guy and goes with the flow...any ideas on what is up with him?

LOL. That's probably your problem, as Quackers said. Two drakes can be civil, but not likely with one hen. It's not unusual for dominant drakes to charge other more docile animals, including dogs. They compete for the mating/attention.

Where did you get your ducks? It would be unusual to get a Mallard if you bought them. Are you sure that one isn't a Rouen?

so their is 1 duck and 2 drakes? If so, not a good idea at all.. they will fight (the drakes ) and way overmate the female. Min 2-3 ducks per drake and some drakes that isn't even enough. I have 5 ducks with my pekin drake i knew enough from this board the pekin male can be overly aggressive sexually so i was thrilled when my ratio turned out like that(yes, it was a straight run lol)

Can more than 1 drake get along? yes BUT that takes massive balance.. and a lot of females.. in my free ranged flock i run several drakes but keep a lot of females and each spring can be a bit um, crazy especially as i decide which young drakes to keep for the new year...

That said some drakes don't work in multiple drake flocks, i sold one last year like that.. he just did not even as a young'in show a personality to do so. I tolerate NO drake going after me, ever! i have big drakes these are mostly Muscovy with huge claws, they could seriously hurt someone. Drakes who do not know their place act like this and that must be curtailed. I am top Drake in my flock, the birds move for me not the other way around, i am never unkind but have no trouble establishing my place.
