First off, these are my first meat birds. I have had chickens for a few years now. The 10 meaties little coop smells WAY worse than my other coop that houses 20 hens and a roo. Can I give them something to help their digestive system like yogurt?

I'm not sure about yogurt but you can add some apple cider vinagar to their water. This should soften the smell of the fecies a bit. It is also good for their digestive systems. You need the acv with " the mother" in it. This just bassically means unpasturized. About a tablespoon per gallon is enough.

Meaties tend to grow, eat, poop, grow, eat, poop, etc. so they tend to smell worse than others because their life is revolving around three things. They have also been genetically altered, to grow fast. the faster they grow, the more they eat, the more they poop-I think you get the picture. Not a lot you can do from my experience to eliminate the smell just hope you can get through the growing period quickly.

HI, i sprinkle DE on the bedding daily after adding it - it really takes down the smell level.

i don't think that the cornish x or genetically altered, just breeding .

They have not been genetically altered, they've been selectively bred for over 50 years. They are a 4 way cross. There is a certain cross to get the hen, another to get the roo, then those are crossed to get the cornish x.

Best way to deal with meat bird poo is to have them in a movable tractor and move it every day. Then you can hose down that spot if you wish and wash away the poop into the grass.

Fermented feeds and the mother ACV DO help....I've got 50 meaties and a WR roo living in and out of an 8x10 coop and there is virtually no smell at all. I've only used one bag of shavings and one bale of hay and haven't cleaned them out at all...just fluff them up every other day or so.

Instead of the caramel brown, liquid stool that meaties seem to always have, mine now have normal stools in consistency and color. I put more than a TBS of ACV in the water and all the feed is fermented.
