Holy cow.. and I thought I had bad roo luck this year. But 90% roos? *faint*
I believe Meyer supplies My Pet Chicken too, which is why they can just send as little as three or so. They ship out small quantities because they ship with a heating pad (hence the fee methinks) that they use instead of live bodies ( though I know folks do get packing peanuts sometimes in the cold season ). I'm really super happy with these little gals. So far just a mild splayed leg (shes actually standing now with slack in the hobbles!) and one pasty butt. I have some older ones, the Ameraucanas, that are as sweet as can be. Here's a pic of those.
I've discovered a true joy of gardening with chickens. You go to weed and they will dash in where the weed used to be to get any bugs. My chickies and I have bonded over our yard time and gardening this year.
Oh... and totally cute. One of our new chicks has decided its the biggest baddest pullet ever. It attacks my hubby's hand when ever he goes near it, and has even tried to eat the pet cat that stretches out near their brooder to watch. Doesn't this little gal just scream 'attitude'? I noticed, and shes totally got my hubby charmed even though she has the new title of meanest chick ever.
As to how I get them to line up and sit still for a picture? The pet cat is as fascinating to them as they are to the cat.
