I've totally been in your shoes before.
I stood up for my mean roos, who, for the most part, only went after me. My parents were not happy at all and would always convince me that they didn't provide anything for the flock, but I said they were leaving our home only over my dead body. I rolled with it for a little while but after constantly hearing that there are nicer roosters out there in need of homes, I took it into consideration. Hearing this began to make more and more sense to me, so I did what I had to do. When the roosters were gone, my hens were not only happier, but had a new sense of freedom. Emotionally, hens can be totally independent without a male to head the flock. MHO, Cut the dead weight, and get some more birds. The jounrey led me to find a new rooster in need of a home, and he is a very deserving boy. He has never attacked a person, treats my hens well, and is no dummy. There's always a good rooster in need of a home.
And don't try to convince her to get new birds and keep the roo. You'll regret that later when you've already fought this fight and there's something else you'll want more. Take it from me.
