My month-old red has vent problems... help!

Well, now we are really concerned.

The hemorrhoid cream didn't seem to help at all.

So, tonight we tried the honey method. We are just not going to give up until we have tried everything. We also put a couple drops all-natural vinegar in her water. We don't think she is drinking though.

Well, our girl is just about the same. Nothing seems to be working to retract the prolapsed vent. But she seems just fine! She is eating, drinking and poop looks normal. We have had to separate her out because she definitely gets picked on when we put her with the others. But she has become my husband's heel chicken now. She follows him wherever he goes and is having a great time free ranging! Hub is busy making her a separate but connected run, and has made her a 'house' out of a kid's old flintstone truck we found at the back of our property. She is now chicken royalty living in the taj mahal and traveling around her world.

What would you do?

This is gross, so if you don't want to hear it, best to push off to another post <fair warning>.

She is alive, but barely. She stopped eating. She pushes constantly like she has to go... but she is pushing out her intestine - it's red but not bleeding... only thing coming out of her is yellow stringy.

I know she's suffering. She chirps differently than the others.

I'm afraid we're running out of options.

What would you do?

Well, we made the decision and did the deed.

My husband culled "Blue" just a minute ago. We're both crying like babies. We'd never make it on a big farm, I'm afraid.

I'm so sorry about Blue. You did the right thing, even though it is hard. I had a hen with prolapse and we had to cull her. I cried and cried. So in my grief I ordered me 25 little ones. Now I have plenty of chickens and I love everyone of them.

Thank you, toysmom

I read what you said to my hubby, and he and I both smiled and looked mischieviously at each other. Imma thinkin' it won't be long....
