My name is Dizzie and I am thinking of adding to my flock, this time ordering day old chicks. Advice?

Salve (Latin for hello)! :frow Definitely do your research and have a list of nonnegotiable points you want in a chicken. Otherwise when you sit down to order you may not only be overwhelmed by the number of beautiful breeds available but also fall victim to chicken math :).
She's right Dizzie. That chicken math can peck you really hard if you don't watch it. Voice of experience speaking.

Welcome to BYC. I have never bought chicks in the mail, but I have got day old chicks from a nearby farm/breeder. They are absurdly cute and will keep you up all night with worry about whether they are too hot, too cold, hungry, bored etc.
You will have a blast raising them and there are lots of folk on here who have lots of experience and can answer any questions you have along the way.

Hiya, Dizzie! Welcome to BYC!!! :frow

For what it's worth, here is my labor of love.

I have 2-week old chicks in the brooder in our house for the next 3-4 months before I can put them outside. Then it will be another month or two before I start trying to integrate them into the main coop.

I know it's not as cold there in NC, but it still is too cold in the winter to have baby chicks outside without heat.
