We got another blizzard!! 20 inches again! The birds are locked up in their coop/run. A day before, I let them out and I was particularly interested in what Ruby was doing with the flock. She acted very normal and back to business.
Not something I would expect from her, but I'm not a chicken. So I watched. She was very quiet and she came to the back door alone. I was there and she saw me, one foot up, one eye up at me. I opened the door a bit and said, "come back later" she looked me up & down than sauntered off; but looked back at me before she ran in the direction of the others.
Dorothy was starting to get picked on, in part because she sided with Pearl in the end. And also she was a threat to the younger ones. Ruby had a position she had to keep for the sake of the flock, the younger ones were right up there and Dorothy was kinda in the way. I figure, it was Dorothy against the whole flock and fight to keep her position, OR Dorothy steps back to #5 instead of #3 chicken and keep her sanity and live like a serf. I hoping she picks the latter. I think she's accepting that position. But you never know day to day in chicken land.
Right now with the snow, everyone's stuck in the coop and have to deal with each other!
We'll see how that goes. So far, it's been quiet.
Maybe during their little chicken conference tonight, they'll be very lenient on Dorothy.
