My Neighbor just found this in a nesting box

My neighbor and fellow chicken tender went out to gather eggs this am and found this in a nesting box. She said all of her chickens are fine and acting normal.

Any ideas???? I think I would be freaking out!!

That looks to be lash egg material and there could be some other bloody material or tissue from the oviduct. Lash eggs are material produced by salpingitis or an inflamed oviduct. They end up inside the abdomen if they go upward, or in the droppings or nest box if they go downward in the oviduct. Antibiotics may not be effective one you see lash material, but some use amoxicillin or even enrofloxacin to treat it to extend their lives. Aqua-Mox is a fish amoxicillin that may be purchased online. Fish Mox was a more well known brand that sometimes was found in some feed stores.
