Well the FIL finished building my new coop saturday. He brought it out in 8 pieces and even vinyl'd the floor.

Here it is....the little run is actually my chicken tractor.

Here are the girls in thier coop

Here is my fav girl, she is the only one I can distinguish as her coloring is very light compared to the rest.
She is getting quite tame and follows me around the yard when free.

They are ISA brown Pullets, I got them as day olds on June 2nd, so they are around 5 weeks old.

The one big bonus to having them is that they absolutely go nuts for ants, like crazy attack chicken nuts.

For entertainment we put the chicken tractor on top of an ant hill on the weekend and the 25 girls absolutely annihalated it in about 20 minutes. They especially liked scratching for the larva, you would think it was crack the way they were acting.

I haven't built the run yet, at the moment they get 5 hours of chicken tractor time per day.

I am going to build two 12x12 runs for them and alternate once a week.

They might even end up being 12x25 depending on if I can get hardware cloth in bulk this week.

The chicken tractor is 4x8 and they pretty much devour the greens and bugs in the 5 hour span.

Hopefully at least one run will get built this weekend depending on weather.

I also have to put in windows as I just have covered cutouts right now for air circulation.

Temps range from a max of 83'f to a low of 58. I didnt turn on the heat lamp yesterday and they were still quite happy when I checked on them before work this morning. Most of the time it stays a nice 70-75 degrees.

Your coop looks great! Very similar to the one my dad and I are building. Hope you're able to get that run done soon. Mine are being housed in an old dog house with a run we built on temporarily but I'm ready for them to be in their permanent residence (I only have 4 pullets right now). Your lil ones are beautiful...would have loved to watch them at the ant hill!

Oh I forgot, the lil one in the picture (my favorite) is named drumstick.

Hopefully the run will get done this weekend....

My FIL owns a flooring installation company so he put this really nice vinyl down and will be coming back to do the walls also. One of the perks to marrying his only daughter was all the free flooring I can handle...He is redoing all the floors at our place because we are expecting (WHOOO HOOOO)...23weeks down 17 to go.

On top of the vinyl are Wood Stove Pellets....It took about eight 40lb bags to cover the floor.

Floor is insulated also as I live in Manitoba and the winters here are wicked.

Trust me. You're better off just buying the floor. There's no way you'll come out ahead on this deal.
