I bought that duckie in the spring when I had a lone egg in the bator (long story) and I knew it would need company. That chick didn't make it and I had the duckie. When these last chicks hatched, I thought the babies would like something soft to snuggle with if the bigger ones wouldn't do it. They love it!

See that giant, blotchy white spot on the back of this baby's head? That baby did turn out to be a cockerel. Barred Rocks can be fairly reliably sexed by using the size and shape of the headspot along with the coloring of the down/feathers and the legs combined. A more defined and/or smaller headspot=pullet, in general. Some defy the rules, though.

See the small spot on the back of this BR baby's head? She was a pullet.
