My New Babies ~ Heat

Went down after supper. Temp was at 80 so we lowered the light as much as we could. However, when we went in, the chicks were scattered all around. They didn't huddle up til we started messing with the light. Then they we're like "What is this big creature coming into my home!?!?"
Anyway, checked everyone over good. Everybody is cute and adorable. Someone, however has a touch of diarrhea. Any recommendations? They're on medicated chick feed.

Here is a pic of the whole set-up:

They're beautiful! We have 5 new babies and although we have them in the garage out of drafts and under a heat lamp...they always seem a little too warm so after 5 days we've raised the light and everyone seems much perk-ier!! There's nothing that compares to watching baby chicks grow!

I'm starting to agree that it's not so much about the physical temperature reading as how the chicks react.

Went down again this morning. Temp still at 80. Chicks seemed happy though. I sneaked up on them and they were all napping. I was worried about one, she was laying with her head and neck stretched out in front of her. I said "Morning Chickies" and they all jumped up and scattered. I can't think what else to do. I've got a reptile warmer pad I can give them to snuggle with, but I don't know how it would work with the shavings.

ETA - Thanks for the compliments!!

My hen hatched chicks in winter and they all were running around her in 35 degree temps, only to get under her to warm up a bit, then right back out to play. They were all healthy and happy.

I'd just make sure temps directly under the light are 80-90. Please be careful placing the lamp too close to bedding. May cause a fire.

I wouldn't use the warmer pad on the bedding.

Cute chicks!
