5 Coturnix babies hatched yesterday, and they are far too cute! I have 1 yellow with faint stripes, 2 with very defined stripes and 2 very dark with stripes. how do i work out what colors they'll be as adults? They came as a mixed batched so could be English White, Tuxedo, Golden, Range , or fawn.

I was really hoping for a tuxedo one, anyway to tell?

They are adorable!

I'm in no way experienced as far as quail are concerned, but we are really thinking about getting some! I love the noises they make.

Well, the yellow chick will be white, the 2 others will be brown/wild colored. The dark chick/s....I don't know what color they will be.
There could be a tux in there, I just can't say.

Sorry for high-jacking this old thread, but I have the same colours as the OP and all are supposed to be Golden (the breeder only sells Golden and "Chinese").

First picture;
All yellow
Yellow with stripes

Second picture;
Black with stripes
All black

Sorry about the mess in the brooder. I changed it yesterday, but I spilled some water so I need to change it again...

It would be best to make your own thread you might get more replies.
Bottom picture:
All black is Tibetan
Black striped is pharaoh(wild type)
First picture
Yellow not too sure probably all white
Yellow stripe probably a golden better picture would help

1 one Looks golden to me
2 is a Tibetan tuxedo
Your yellow ones will probably be white with maybe some spots
The yellow striped ones are Italian, the yellows will be white I see a couple faint spots on one, so probably Texas a&m, the dark striped one is pharaoh, and the dark ones are Tibetan or Rosetta. With the mixed flock my guess is some might end up leaning more towards Rosetta.

Italian, which I think the breeder refers to as golden, is an incomplete dominant gene, if she only had Italians only about 25% would be non Italian I believe, so they were probably lying about their birds. If there is a feedback option you can use for this breeder even yelp if you bought locally, I would warn others about the inaccurate description. I purchased pricey eggs with no disclaimers about not hatching true, and with 60 eggs set, I only received 8 that could loosely be called the color I ordered, and 3 were male, so 5 hens for $60+. I contacted them several times, but I eventually received a refund when I threatened to start leaving bad feedback. Perhaps you can get a refund or reship of eggs.

Thanks. I didn't pay a premium for them, and I actually don't care what colour they are (as a noob I would prefer feather-sexable ones, but a mixed batch is also fun), I'm just curious :)

I might add that I'm in Spain for now, but I don't speak Spanish... I probably misunderstood; They were marked as "CODORNICES OR" ("codornices" being plural for quail) and my mind translated "or" to gold (but "oro" is the Spanish for gold), and the picture on their site seems to be pharao... lol *noobs* :p
