my new baby hen

Absolutely, just make sure it's the about the same size and age as your baby hen. They will do very well together as a pair, it's just never a good idea to raise one alone. And be sure to post pictures of them both if you can!

Just curious, do you know how old she is, and what do you feed her?

i dont know the age, but i feed her some grey little pellet thingy.. very soft?

tonight gonna be a noisy night... i tried putting a small bear in the box but it seems it doesnt help... and tomorrow i have school

i tried lifting my hen and putting its beak in the small water bowl, but it doest drink or walk there by it self, i gotta lift it to its water bowl and holding it....?
i've got a mirror in there now, but still chirps!

I think she's just lonely, but they chirp if they're too cold or too hot too.

Does she have feathers or just fuzz, that'll help us tell how old she is. A picture would be great! The reason i asked was because if she's less than a week or two old, she may be cold. Chicks that young need to be kept really warm. The lamp you have over her, can she move out from under it if she gets too hot? Most people put the lamp over one side of the box so she can get under it if cold, but move away from it if she's hot. Can you post a picture of her?

About the water, sometimes chicks take awhile to figure new things out, she's probably not used to the bowl yet. Keep showing her every so often and she'll catch on. She's stressed too so that may be part of it.

When will you be able to get the other chick?

Oh, she's just a baby! Very cute.

It's pretty warm in her box right? It looks good to me but it's very important that you don't let her get cold (but not too hot either). But I really think she's just lonely and that's why she chirps. Does she calm down if you hold her? Sometimes they like the feel of a warm body holding them.

How deep is that water dish? Believe it or not, chicks drown very easily in very little water. They fall in or fall forward while drinking and they don't know how to get themselves up.

Once you get the other chick, she should settle down quite a bit. It may take them a day or so to get used to their new home, but they will be so glad to have each other. For now, just hang in there and she'll get worn out soon and sleep. Baby chicks normally sleep a lot, she's just stressed out and lonely.

Oh yeah, do you know what breed she is?

does hens make noises when they wake up... when there small to big..? thanks

Don't let the lamp touch anything or be too close to the clothing and hay and it should be ok, just keep a close eye on it. But make positively sure it's high enough so she cannot touch that lamp under any circumstances. She could suffer horrible burns from it in a split second. Can someone check on it while you're at school?

As babies, some of mine would chirp a bit after they woke up, but it wasn't loud. Some are quieter than others, just depends on the individual. My grown hens sometimes make little soft noises when they wake up, but not always.

If you're talking about crowing, no, hens normally don't crow like roosters do. Some hens do crow occasionally, but it's very uncommon. Babies don't crow at all, they just chirp.
