My new baby silkies!! 9 week update post #47 - critique please! :)

OK... that made me feel better Chris... cuz I know you know quality. No, if they truly are blues, they'll be a terrific improvement to my blue flock. The disappointment is only in the color, not the conformation.

Like I told you, they are not a complete detriment. Dark blues have their place as they help add color to the underfluff of a splash. The genetics are there for good blacks you just have to strategically plan your breedings and cull cull cull, to concentrate your genes.

And I KNOW quality, that doesn't mean I necessarily have it, or can always AFFORD it..... but I do have the determination to do great things with my Silkies, even if I have to start with less than superior birds. I'm sure a lot of people WONT share my passion, but when your as determined as I am, a little thing like an off colored bird doesn't stop you. Heck, a 4 toed DQ'd bird wont stop me! Its all about the goal, not how you get there...

woot GO POULET YEAH!!!

The paint analogy actually made more sense this time around... I must be a little dense.

Chris. With silkies, you HAVE to have a passion and be in it for the long-haul... espectially when they take 8-9 months to start laying for your next generation!

Thing is, I PAID for black...

I wanted a good solid black base for my lavender.

Blue is ok. They look like they're better quality that a couple of the ones I have. So it's all good.

Tori, If you don't want them I'll take them off your hands, the pretty precious! Must have the Precious!

I can understand your frustration though, if you ordered and paid for blacks and got blues instead. From what I have read is that two blues bred together can produce blues, blacks and splash. I have a blue splash pullet, and I am hoping to add a white, a black, a grey, and a buff. to my flock. I haven't decided what color roo for them though at the moment.

Local pickup, only...

I need to separate my lavender roo from my blue pen... he's making things difficult for me to "see". I have chicks from that pen that are so pale that I almost confuse them with my whites. I have had blues from pale pale pale to extremely dark, to the one in the above photos that I guess could be a black... I'll have to wait and see. But out of the dozens of chicks I've hatched from them this year, that's the only one that has been that dark. Usually they're slate blue or dark, but obviously blue. I need to figure out how Stitch is figuring into all this. But I'm afraid to move him anywhere for fear he'll get beat up by himself...

Well... the reply was "Yes, some will look blue then feather out black." I guess I'll have to wait and see.

OK... last of the photos for now...
Group shot, everyone included...

I don't know what this means, but I found a current ad from the person I got these from, and it specifically said "Blue/Black bearded silkies"... he told me his blacks were separated...
