You are so very lucky. If I can gather enough free materials, I would surely try to build one just like it. (Can I steal your idea?

YES by all means - If I can find the layout my husband had on a piece of paper I will get a copy for you. My husband is a perfectionist and everything has to measure up just so-so, but that's what made me fall in love with him. Good Luck with your pen.

Man I really wish I could build something like that, I'm just now upgrading my little 12 chicken coop into something that can hold around 30. Any guesses on how much it cost you to construct all of that? I really want to build something like that some day.

Wonderful set-up! You both did a great job designing and building this!

Where do the chickens roost at night? Do they have an enclosed area or are they always open to the air year round?

I've seen mirrors framed out and used as "windows" outside on fences or garden sheds. I'm sure your hubs could do this and then you can paint it a nice contrasting trim color to go with your shed.

We are looking at adding some type of curtains to the outside for the winter time (some simular to the curtains that the older commercial chicken houses have - still looking) Each pen has their own roosting bar, I will try to take more pictures tonight of the inside of the pens. If you look on My Page you can see inside the Buff & Dominiques Pen.

We have even thought about adding a misting system for the really HOT days. We both come up with different ideas just about everyday. Thanks for all the kind words.

Right now we have about $2000.00 in it - we have alot of 4x4's (sometimes I think too many, but that is what he wanted to use). I laughed at the guy that delivered some building material one day his comment was "I think this thing could withstand an F4 tornado". LOL

The storage building we already had we just moved it to the spot we had graded off and the metal was recycled from a remodeling job(from local company). We had previously quoted the metal as $2.00 ft - but we were able to buy this for .50 ft. That was a major savings. Thanks for asking.
