My New Barn

Wish my chickens had this kind of view! I know how you feel about the cold. I live in Eastern Canada, so it gets -40 Celsius in winter here. When we buy a new house/build, our chickens will get a well designed coop! For now they don't see, to mind where they are

The barn is coming along nicely. It's still a lot of work. But we are making progress. The plumber is coming out next week to finish up the water lines and get the heater running. So this weekend we need to get the sink out of the box and set up so they can hook it up. I got a double utility sink with legs - no cabinet, and it comes with the faucet and everything so it just requires a little assembly

We are glueing up the FRP now, it's Fiberglass Reinforced Plasitc, it comes in 4X10' sheets and we just glue it onto the plywood walls. It is super srong once it's glued to something solid so I can hit it with the shovel and it won't dent or chip, it's waterproof and cleans up super easy. I can hose all the poop off when I do my spring cleaning. It's like teflon for the walls

I will be doing a lot of working, and a bunch more posting, over the weekend so stay tuned

We use that material in veterinary hospitals, it works well. A word of caution, keep a good eye on where it starts to separate at the seams and floors. It is very difficult to clean out what builds up under there to repair it the longer you let it go. Great job once again!

thanks for the heads-up. We are gluing the joints into the transition strips pretty well and will be calking it against the floor. I am contemplating running a piece of cove base around the bottom like they do in bathrooms, to keep the water out from under... H2B doesn't think we will need it so I will watch it and see.

Michelle, is the FRP pebbled? I looked at Lowes today and they only had a textured "pebble" variety... Great idea by the way.. any others you'd like to share? My barn is supposed to go up next week... can't wait!!!

We've used it in mechanical shops, dog houses, and residential garages and it really takes a beating but can be sanitized without too much effort. We are sealing the bottom with standard bathroom type caulking that will hopefully keep the moisture and debris out from under/behind it. The adhesive comes in a big bucket and is applied with a trowel. It's easy to cut with a skill saw, table saw or jig saw where it needs to be fit around pop doors and such.

Tonight we will be looking at the plans for Opa's roll out nest boxes, so many things to get done and the snow is creeping down the mountains...
