My New Barn

Wow, can't wait to see some pics of a barn in progress! Did not research where Palmer is but back in 1977 I was stationed in Kodiak on a Coast Guard ship. That was my first duty in a 30 year career. Anyway, ended up in Michigan with acreage, chickens, and other "pets". I have a spot for my barn also. Anytime I see a good size project happening I follow it. My barn idea is more along the old style hip roof, 2 floor design but with animals in mind. Get some more pictures up there.

We are painting the feeder today, want to seal the wood base against water penetration just in case...

Also we were researching pop doors. One of our issues around here is the mess of excess shavings being kicked out the door becoming wet slippery hazards or worse, frozen into stumbling blocks. My thought is to make a threshold by laying a 2X4 under the bottom of the pop door opening in hopes that small barrier will be enough to block some of the shavings from just tumbling out.

Tom wants to make the "removable doors" inside the interior pens so that they fold flat against the wall, where they can be latched in place until they are needed, rather than removing them and then having to make a place to store them. Sounds good to me.

We have had basicly NO summer here so I forget that it's not as late in the season as it feels. I NEED SOME SUN!

I lived in Fairbanks for 4 years when I was a kid and my dad was stationed at Loring AFB. We sure did love it.
It's great that you have work you can do even with construction paused.

POP DOORS

During breeding season we will have all the interior doors closed so we can collect pure eggs. That is why in the drawing it shows 3 separate pens. This means we will need 3 pop doors. We think we like this one as the installation looks easy and they have lots of customer comments of approval.

The neighbors:

Not directly next door but about 1/2 mile up the street is the Reindeer farm. This picture was taken in May, when the babies were hitting the ground. They are so cute, all legs, and much darker than their parents.

such cute neighbors! Do they raise them for meat? There are folks in my home town who raise elk and buffalo, it is always fun to go see the new babies!

Hello from Alabama - love your new barn idea and location.

My husband just finished mine and if you get a chance give mine a view. I am in the process of running my water line and then eventually electricity. Keep the pictures coming. Good luck.
