My new chick is sick and i dont even know what breed it is

For some reason they aldo sent us a random standard chick and i dont know ehy pretty sure its a leghorn but she towers ovet the bantams

Sometimes you'll get a chick that just hatched, and they are always a day or so behind the others. I just had one, in our group of 17, she was tinier than the rest and would not eat or drink on her own. I basically had to dip her beak a bunch, every hour or so...it took a whole day for her to start eating with the rest. She tried to just sleep under the heater, and if we had left her alone, I'm positive she would have died. Is your water nice and warm? That'll help.

This was probably a case of travel stress. go to Tractor Supply and buy the small bottle of Bovidr Labs poultry Nutri drench. put a half a teaspoon in a quart of water and give it to them for the first 10 days. it will get them off to a strong start
also when you have shipped chicks and they arrive, give each chick one drop only by mouth. if the chick looks needy repeat as needed every 8 to 10 hours.

I see your problem. The heat lamp is pointing towards the far end of the brooder, warming the whole space. Heat should be directed straight down, and only warming a small bit of floor space. The rest of the brooder needs to be room temp. Feel the waterer. Is it warm to the touch? Drinking cool water is one way chicks use to regulate their temperature and rid themselves of excess heat. And I hope you have a bigger space to move them to next week. They are going to outgrow that bin in no time.

Yes i do have a bigger bin. Actualy a very large dog crate. We were going to put them there originaly but there bantams aso thwy could fit wright through the bars. Does anyone else have bantams and if so how old before i can start giving them other treats and foods and bring them outside a little each day?
