I don't know anything about silkie chicks
but barred rocks are really sweeties. I've read in a lot of threads about how they have one of the very nicest temperaments of all breeds, not flighty, don't go broody often, healthy, and long lived. I have two barred rock pullets right now and I like them a lot. I had a little barred rock cockerel that I absolutely loved. He was very friendly and always called the others when he found a treat or something good to eat. I had to give him away because we can't have roos
