After three long months of remodeling my old shed, I now have a chicken coop I am so excited about. I got a lot of ideas from many of you on this forum. Thanks a ton for your posts. My chicks are loving their new home.

Quote: Great job! I especially love the clear and decorative roof on top of the dog run. It is a great idea to make the run usable year-round and protect it from the aerial predators and weather element. How was the roof attached to the chain linked fence? Will it withstand the snow load?

I would suggest that try to increase ventilation in the coop. Even for Alaska, ventilation is essential in the cold and warm weather.

I attached the roof using several U-bolts to the top of the kennel and also attached the kennel sides to the coop. It is pretty solid. I had to step on the rafters while I was installing the Suntuf panels and the bolts held without any movement. As for the ventilization, I have a window but I am thinking about putting a vent at the gables that have louvers so I can shut them during really windy weather. So far I keep the window open and the front door open and get a cross breeze that keeps things dry. This however, will not be possible in winter. :)

I agree. You need more ventilation. Also did you put hardware cloth on the lattice panels? Wouldn't want a small predator to get your chickens.

Wow, paint goes a long way! That looks fantastic! I am fighting with what kind of top to put on my dog run, good inspiration here!
