My New COOP!!!!! What does everyone think??????

I love your coop! The roost design you came up with is very original; I like the natural, rustic look of the branches.

You should make a BYC coop page!

Nest boxes should be lower .... Infact , we build our nesting area totally on the floor of the coop and the roost on opposite side of the coop . So no pooping in nesting boxes ....

Nesting boxes are all side by side on the floor of the coop ... 8 in larger coop , 4 in the other .

my nest boxes are also on the ground and my chickens dont sleep on the roost, they are about 6-7' off the floor on top of the wall separating the 2 sections

they will go as high as they can. Are you in a warmer climate that you can leave it all open? It looks rustic, I like that look. Seems real cozy. They will love it im sure.

Love the rustic look! The nestboxes, especially for heavy girls, should probably be 2 ft or just a bit more, to keep them from hurting their legs when they jump down and getting bumblefoot infections in the foot pads. I promise that when you have the first injury, you'll be bringing them lower anyway. Bantams are lighter on their feet and fly better, so they are not as inclined to getting hurt for too-high nests.

Very nice! You did an awesome job on that!

(I too put nestboxes high. None of the girls would use them. Brats. I ended up just sitting milk crates on the floor. They're a huge hit and it's easier for me to clean them out.)

What kind of chickens do you have?

Very nice coop and run.

coastal bermuda hay because it is softer

If my chickens ever hear about your chickens nest boxes they would be so jealous.

I read several times in this forum that rule of thumb is nesting boxes 18" off the floor ... But , My hens are huge hens and having my nest boxes side by side on the floor works great for all . Figured as heavy as the hens are , if I would of elevated the nest they would have to jump in the nest and chances are break any eggs laid from previous layers ... Found 6 eggs laid from different hens in same nest box .
