My NHRed girl started laying a week and a half ago and the last few days she has decided to fly out of her 6 foot run in the morning to go in the garden and lay her egg in private, I found her in my green onion patch hunkered down low squatting. She layed a nice egg and came out doing the egg song very cute however if she can fly out of the coop she can very well fly to my neighbors back yard. So I decided to build a nice new coop for her and her sis and my new Ameracauna. I divided the coop in half so I can have 2 birds on each side with their own run area as they where not getting along anyway.I have a slide out poop board on the bottom with a hardware cloth floor hinged door in front so I can get inside to collect eggs and clean top of next boxes, the roosts are up high and above the hardware cloth floor.I will build a spot underneath so the birds will have more room and share a feed box in the middle. Each side will have their own water. Any advice ?

You can work with wood like a pro! Nice job!

I suggest you make a covered run to give them some stretching room, and if you let them in there only every other day, you can throw some grass seed in and once it sprouts, give them a little free-ranging but not so free!

How has it worked out so far? Do they use the roost?

I think it is very good looking coop, Honestly, sometime if you post your thread in certain hours on weekends or mondays you might not get many replies, most ppl hate mondays, and other ppl are done tired on sunday night, most ppl party on Saturdays

Hangover mondays. Thanks for the input, they will have under the coop once I configure a slide in feed and water box also I will build a larger fenced in enclosure so I can let them out in the evening. They do enjoy their evenings ripping my garden to shreads!

I moved my other bird in the left side today and stained it. They will have 8 sq ft per bird plus inside the coop.

5 by 5 by 3ft deep,18 inches high underneath for added space. It will 4 birds just right. I finished the underneath section today and they love the shade under there.
