NICE!! I have a call pen a lot like yours, with the mortar tub sunk into the floor. It is very easy to keep clean--much much easier than if it were on the ground.
I'm planning to build another pen for my wood ducks, which will also be 4'X8'. It is such a great design, and the ducks will just be happy to have sparkling clean water every day.
I also like your mandarin pen idea, with the nest boxes up there. That is so cool. Thanks for sharing!

Where did you get your 30 gallon mortar tub? I have lots of space and would like to make a raised pond on a wood frame, not as tall as yours, but just large enough to accommodate the depth and allow for a drain/pipe running outside the pen to keep mud at a minimum. I'm wondering if that is large/deep enough for my 6 Rouens to swim/dive. Does anyone have suggestions on where I can get a larger tub?

BTW your set up is amazing! Thanks for sharing. I'm brand new to ducks.

Oh. Sorry. It just came up when I did a search on building duck pens and I didn't think to look at the date. Perhas others may have comments that they can offer when the post comes to the top.

I got mine at Lowes. I'm sure they have them at Home Depot too, just look in the section that has concrete/cement. You could also check Tractor Supply Company if you have one in your area.

May I ask, Why off the ground? Do you let them out of this during the day?
Don't forget they need natural roughage to digest their food properly. They love worms too, and snails etc...wow you have a lot of work to do, getting them their daily nutrients to them.
Hope you have some spare time on your hands.
Good luck mate

Teddy those pens are built for bantam ducks and or ornamentals for breeding. They dont have to be on the ground even though it is preferred. Grit and proper feed and clean water keeps them happy and healthy. It is much different then LF ducks such as yours that can free range without flying away or being snatched by a hawk or other predator.
