I got 4 ex-battery hens couple of weeks ago, first 4-5 days they were laying. After that all of them stopped for 5 days and 6th day is today. Why is that? Do they molt? When will they continue? They have all that they need. And also their pelvic bones closed to 2 fingers- first few days they were confortably more than 2 and one hen had 3 fingers width. Thanks
There are two principal explanations for this, 1. the battery disposed of them because they are going into their first full molt and will take a few months off laying to grow new feathers and give their reproductive system a well deserved rest, or 2. the move to a new place and new set up has interrupted their laying. Either or both could be operating.
