Well yesterday I acquired a new flock of ducks. I figured since I have a ton of chickens and some Emu's why not? The Lady gave me ten, but I'm not sure how many I'm keeping and how many are going to my Father In Laws. I got them free, and even got my first duck egg today!

Some seem to be missing feathers so it may take a little work to get them all healthy again.
I think there are two Muscovy one male and one female and then the rest are Rouen with two Drakes and 6 females. I am still learning all this duck stuff!

UPDATED question: So I see I have two male Muscovy's but now I'm wondering about the other ducks. I would assume they are Rouen but they are smallish and I keep reading that Rouen's are bigger ducks. Anyway to tell them apart? Thanks a bunch!!!

Looks like you have 2 Muscovy drakes to me (tho I can't see the legs on the Scovie in the top picture) but that's a LOT of caruncling for girls. Now, depending on the age of the bird in the top picture, it might be a female - that would be a big girl. The gal who gave them to you probably had too many drakes. You'll need a minimum of 6 Muscovy ladies for your two boys, I think you'll find that they'll set themselves apart from your other mallard-types. Mine find all other non-Muscovy waterfowl to be completely inferior to them - LOL! They mostly act like none of the other birds even exist

Pretty birds, by the way

Wow cool. She actually gave me all the ducks she had so maybe she didn't know either? Hehe either way the top one is bigger than the second one, but not by much. Well I *may* need to rehome them, I don't know about adding that many more ducks. I will have to ponder that then. Thanks for the info!!!

They're wonderful ducks! I love mine. Maybe you could rehome 1 and get 1 girl? (I would get 2). If you're interested in hatching eggs to "grow your own" just let me know.

How neat! I know absolutely nothing about ducks, but would love to get a couple some day... they are just so darn cute! DH has no idea the plans I have four our 2 acres of property

Yea, I'm thinking that would work. I would hatch some BUT I have no incubator. I've only ever let our chickens do that part and I'm not sure I'm brave enough to do it yet. lol. But thanks!! I have been pretty intrigued with these two, I can see they are special.

MoonAngel, I know what you mean!

I think there are kind of two types of Rouen, massive fat ones (mainly exhibition or for loads of meat) and smaller ones (are they called Rouen claire?), though always bigger than Mallards... A Rouen owner would probably be able to say if that's right or not.
